  1. Just a personal note and relaying the thoughts of other admins, moderators, staff, boosters, and contributors... Thank you very much for making Week 1 of the 2019 football season a success on the forum for supporters of the Indiana HS football community. The server crash was unfortunate. Lessons were learned. Thankfully @DK_Barons @77Jimmie were able to provide us with a platform to discuss and connect on a message board. Mayor @Coach Nowlin and @Irishman and others greatly have stepped up and taken some of the weight off of other staff. @crimsonace1 keeps us in-line and is a voice of reason @WCGrad92and @sr1 are others with multiple jobs teaching and involved at schools but still make contributions to TGD. @DaveMosbey and @Miner_Pride's consistency is unmatched on TGD and is only rivaled by John Harrell and @Rudy, and a few others across the state. Even @Muda69 and @DT thank you for the banter. @Mrs Gridirondigestshared a message with the administrators saying how happy that Coach Adams' legacy and love for INHSFB lives on. @dawgieinthepound turned corporate, doubt he can find his way back to Casketville. I'm still working and living in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (8 time zones ahead of most of you). In June, my father visited for 10 days and I married my fiancee ... You can send me a personal FB invitation https://www.facebook.com/Chrstopher.Johannes or follow my professional work as a journalist in the Middle East for three years now at https://www.facebook.com/cmjohannes812 I plan to allocate more time to TGD: getting the Predictor Tool back up, rebuilding our http://Twitter.com/gridirondigest to more than 10,000 followers by the end of the season, and contributing more on threads. Again thank you all and anyone we left out like top contributers this week @gonzoron @Impartial_Observer and @Impartial_Observer. Any @Bobref sitings or have @SoIndRef and IO taken that load? PS: We need more northern representation on the board. If you are interested in becoming a referee, send The Sheriff, Nowlin, me and any other staff your interest...

  2. One positive aspect of the mercy rule — at least, from my viewpoint — we won’t have the endless debates on the GID about whether someone ran up the score on someone else.

  3. That was unofficially the rule in the past. If both coaches agreed to any kind of running clock at any point we would grant it. The problem is some coaches refused to do it and collectively the coaches in the state didn't feel that was a good rule. They have been trying to agree on a plan for several years and finally found something they could agree on. I think it's a good change.

  4. Not so much how good a coach he is. CG handled them pretty easily, turnovers and poor officiating cost them.

  5. Is the mercy rule good for HS football? In the 2015 state championship game, New Pal scored 35 unanswered points against Snider in about a quarter and a half. What really bothers me about this rule is that good football programs...........I'm not talking about the wannabes who run up scores in an effort to gain respect......................but actual programs who use the second half to to give playing time to seniors who aren't starters, and underclassmen who need reps to get better. This rule is an absolute disservice to good football programs. Congrats to the wannabes for causing the IHSAA create this idiotic rule.

  6. West Central is hosting a Military Appreciation night on Friday October 4th, when they play host to county rival Winamac. I told a teacher about what Rensselaer was doing and she said something to our AD and he agreed with it. I still say every school in the state should honor our military and follow Rensselaer's lead.

  7. While it's perfectly understandable to feel like you gave one away, people (Miner fans especially) tend to forget the Raiders didn't play anywhere NEAR flawless either. 2 trips inside the Miner 5 YARD LINE in the first half and didn't convert either for TD's. That 12-7 halftime score could/should have been very easily 20-7 or 26-7, then we're talking a different tune here. Both teams played hard, both teams made LOTS of mistakes. Time for week 2 - best of luck to the Miners the rest of the way.

  9. Thank you Bomber Nation. Football is a family. We love all of our family. I know that the Bomber nation did a masterful job in the Military appreciation night. I hope that other schools throughout the state follow your lead and example.

  10. Sorry! I misunderstood what you were saying originally. Then you quoted me about what happens when it gets back under 35 points and things went off the rails. As discussed, in the NP @ Kokomo the rule was done correctly. It did not stop after a TD. It ran during the extra point. And then the clock stopped to prepare for kickoff.

  11. Thank you for citing your sources. A lot of people, particularly on this board, won’t do that.

  12. @DanteEstonia Here's the only article I could find. http://www.therepublic.com/2017/03/23/conference_indiana_looking_to_replace_departing_members/ I can't seem to find the one I'm directly referring to, but it talked about how North's athletic director was directing an effort to try and get Columbus East to join Conference Indiana.

  13. I’ll play Switzerland and say it was probably just an honest miscommunication between the two. Lol If a ref told me it stops ‘after a score’ and I’m the clock operator, I would assume I stopped it after a TD. PAT’s are untimed. Actually reading the rule, it doesn’t stop until after the PAT. First week under a new rule. I remember similar issues with the :40/:25 that ironed themselves out after a week or two.

  14. The only one that really counts is the final score. 👍

  15. I don’t believe so, but I’ve been wrong plenty of times haha. I will ask that question tomorrow.

  16. MG was a lot more physical than they were a year ago. Tipton lost 17 starters and are playing mostly Juniors and sophomores a freshman. MG is a team you have to get a lead on early because they just eat the clock on offense. Never throw a pass and 3-4 yards a pop, while taking the playclock down. Took my young Blue Devils a while to get in an offensive rhythm. I like what the MG coach is doing. They will keep getting better in my opinion. You can tell their kids like playing for him.

  17. I don't think Coach Oliver would agree with you. He was obviously disappointed and angry after the game and said if the players don't learn to do what they're supposed to do they might not win a game all season. of course that was a bit of hyperbole, but they did make a ton of mistakes. I know I expected much better from a veteran team.

  18. Ole Miss is good but i wouldn't say they are clear favorites to win. Eastbrook handled Marion a lot better than i thought they would, that Marion team is FAST!!!!! and Eastbrook was only down 14-7 at half. This week against Delta will be test for Eastbrook, saw some film on Delta and they look a lot better than last year or Muncie Central is that bad. Was very shocked when we heard the half time score of MG and Tipton!

  21. So if your info is true, which Im not disputing, the IHSAA dropped Evans' suspension from being ejected from the last game he played? I know it was 2 years ago but as far as I know, and under everyone elses rules, that still applies. He was ejected in the regional for 2 personal fouls in the loss to East Central in their last game in state. And if you have no line to block it really doesnt matter how good your runners are. Not going to be very successful. I know it was just 1 game but from that it appears Memorial is head and shoulder above everyone else.

  23. Of course it could not be the referee's fault. Why not say "I would have to see the film before determination is made on my part." Throwing the clock operator under the bus is just plain BOBREF. You have already stated many times that you think that most of them can't do the job correct.

  24. No. You have it wrong. Rules and Procedures Beginning with the second half of any high school football game, when the point differential between teams is at or reaches 35 points, the game clock shall convert to a running clock. A running clock is defined as a clock that does not stop during play with the exception of timeouts, scores and/or injuries. Once the running clock is implemented, the clock may not revert back to standard timing protocols regardless of the score of the contest.

  25. Luck absolutely is not a bust. In the grand scheme of things. The biggest bust was the lack of due diligence that was afforded to protecting him. His injuries are a direct result of the team not doing everything in their power to protect him. A team that has routinely had so much cap space to play with failed to get the right pieces until last year. Unfortunately even after going from basically the worst OL to one of the very best in 1 year thanks to 2 great Rookies, it was too little too late. This is just the reality of the situation. I’m sure the Giants and other organizations are paying attention to this. If the giants start Jones behind that horrible OL will they pay for it down the road? Absolutely

  26. If at the halftime break, or anytime following, the score differential is 35 or more, the game clock will run continually, stopping only for scores, time outs, or injuries. The only person to stop the clock during application of the mercy rule is the Referee (White Hat).

  28. Impressive wins by Concord, Northridge and Wawasee in my opinion last night. Expected wins by Warsaw and NorthWood. Both teams will face their most difficult opponent (outside of their week 8 matchup) next week with the Panthers hosting Chatard and the Tigers making the trip to Ames field against Michigan City. Goshen's win might be their only victory of the season, but I wouldn't be mad if they proved me otherwise. I don't see them standing a chance next week against Elkhart Central. Memorial will still be a tough out all year in my opinion. I do not know why I'm so optimistic on them, but wouldn't be surprised if they beat Concord next week. Plymouth... Far from a bad loss, but definitely a great game that they could have won. When was the last time a Rockie QB threw for over 300 yards?

  30. Interesting how people forgetting MIchigan City. Just read they were up 41-0 at end of first quarter, running clock second quarter on. Can’t wait to see them play against Valpo in a few weeks.

  34. More likely, an error by the clock operator. Here are proper clock mechanics for the mercy rule: If at the halftime break, or anytime following, the score differential is 35 or more, the game clock will run continually, stopping only for scores, time outs, or injuries. The only person to stop the clock during application of the mercy rule is the Referee (White Hat). Following a touchdown, the clock will run through the PAT. Following the PAT, the Referee will stop the game clock. The continuous clock will resume at the ensuing kickoff with the kick. Normally, on a free kick, the game clock does not start until the kick is touched by the receivers. While the Mercy Rule is in effect, however, on a free kick the game clock will start as soon as the ball is kicked. Following a successful Field Goal attempt, the Referee will stop the game clock. The continuous game clock will resume at the ensuing kickoff and the game clock will continue to run. Following a safety, the Referee will stop the game clock. The continuous game clock will resume at the ensuing kickoff and the clock will continue to run.
