  1. Spegal scored on the final possession of second quarter after Greenfield attempted a fake punt, fumbled and Dragons recovered at the GF 10 yard line. He did play one possession of the third quarter and the substitutions had begun. Fourth quarter was entirely JV and freshmen.

  3. 68-0. Looks like they let off the gas. Scoring by quarter (according to max preps): Q1-28 Q2-27 Q3-7 Q4-6. Looks like they had a few other RBs with a couple TD's so I don't know exactly when those were scored. Either way, with their schedule they have, Spegal and crew would be practicing all summer and during season to play a half of football in 90% of their games. New Pal is a powerhouse as of late and their conference is weak. I'm sure their JV team could beat greenfield central by 30+ as well. What do you do take a knee from halftime on?

  4. Coach Bill Peebles was doing well at Lawrence Central also, not to the level of success Coach Jayson West had but Peebles was only there for 2 seasons. He tool them to 6-5 and 6-4 his only 2 seasons there, but that was coming off of 3 dreadful seasons of 3-7, 4-7, and 3-7 prior to his arrival. They were at least very competitive in the MIC under Peebles, right now they are not competitive. It is interesting how LC went 15-0 in 2012 under Coach West and after he left the following year they went 3-7 in 2013. Was that a Senior heavy team in 2012, were there transfers out after Coach West left? Honest question.

  5. As an LC alum, I've never understood it. Could be a premier job in Indianapolis. Obviously splitting student pool between LC and LN hurts in comparison with Warren, Carmel, Ben Davis, North Central, Pike, but geez. Should be better. Only Jayson West has been able to win there. I'm guessing LC letting him go to WC for additional free day care is looked back upon as a major blunder.

  6. I have the utmost respect for our High School Officials. I've witnessed some pretty nasty behavior in the stands of games. Glad to see some Officials stand up to it. Inevitability is a challenge. Anything inevitable is usually predicted. The fight is to keep it from happening. It’s always on the horizon, just hanging there in plain sight, but it’s just ignored. No one thinks it’s going to happen in their lifetime. No one wants the responsibility of cleaning up the mess. So, what happens when the inevitable becomes reality? We are about to find out. Last week, the Eastern Panhandle Officials Association decided it had had enough. The group severed ties with the Tri-County Youth Football League (TCYFL) in West Virginia. The referee organization announced its decision in a release, pointing to “poor behavior” presented as “abuse, negativity and utter disrespect shown to our officials from parents, coaches and most recently our players.” The organization elected to stop working all the youth football games. That’s right. The zebras left the reservation. They literally took their ball and went home. After years of being the subjects of public ridicule, these referees finally hit the breaking point. Every breath they took. Every move they made. Every rule they enforced. Everyone was watching them … and complaining. It’s tough being right only half of the time, if you’re lucky. With this move, the officials said “you need us more than we need you.” And they are right. Now, the TCYFL is at a standstill. The league was entering the final stages of the regular season to qualify teams for their playoffs. And now every kid is sidelined. There are no title games. No championships. No trophies, to be earned or given for feel-good reasons. In essence, the entire season has become nothing more than an asterisk. And the reason is simple. These players are unable to utilize the skills they have learned on a playing field because of the behavior they were learning at home. That is a culture of “abuse, negativity and utter disrespect” that is prevalent at practically every game on every level these days, coming from “parents, coaches and most recently our players.” And here’s the news. These problems don’t stem from the referees. Local-level referees aren’t perfect. They will admit that. They try their best in very challenging situations and times, multiplied by a group of people in the stands who think they know better. The funny thing is if the critics are so knowledgeable, why aren’t they volunteering to take the field. It’s a lot easier sitting up in the stands, pointing out perceived infractions 100 feet away from the field. Refs have the worst seat in the house. They are in the middle of the action with many obscured views. Yet, they suffer the trickle-down wrath of a world controlled by instant replay. Referees choose to do this job because they have two attributes — passion and integrity. They love the game and still want to be involved for its betterment and they approach the game without playing favorites, no matter what some people think. You know what happens when you fight authority. Authority always wins. Parents and coaches in these youth contests continue to come up with new ways to amaze. They continue to live vicariously through the games their kids play. They fight and scream like every play is stealing food off the family table. They believe their kids are destined to be the next great high school and college players who will get to play in the NFL. They will tell you that. The problem escalates with coaches, who try to intimidate the referees instead of instructing their teams. Coaching staffs can be seen screaming on every play, trying to guilt officials into making the next call a favorable one. How long does it take before players — especially the young, impressionable ones — start believing all odds are stacked against them. Your parents and coaches can’t be wrong, can they? Now that’s building our children a foundation for a successful future. No one considers that games are still decided by the best team winning, at least on that day. It’s amazing what a little coaching, encouragement and confident words can do. You have to wonder how these adults would react if their kids came to their jobs and started yelling at their bosses and department heads. That might be embarrassing. Wonder how the kids feel? The TCYFL is working to repair the burnt bridges between the league and the officials. They realize that a good thing in the community was ruined by a selfish few. The process will probably consist of promises, new rules and a bit of groveling. “That’s definitely our goal,” said TCFYL commissioner Doug Arndt to the Martinsburg Journal. “It’s a shame but the message has been sent. We are not alone. It’s happening all over the country. “This is for the kids. Let the little guys play. We don’t need all this stuff in the stands and all this stuff on the sidelines.” That remains a work in progress. The world of sports has become increasingly combative and overly self-centered in recent years, especially off the field. About a year ago, this column presented the idea that the sport of football will disappear someday in the future. There were many reasons, like participation and health, but one notion was the game will end when there are no longer any referees to officiate games. This idea was very hypothetical, but this instance could be the first sign of football’s apocalypse. Is that the next inevitability on the horizon? Only time will tell. https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/opinion/parasiliti-refs-decide-to-take-ball-go-home/article_c686a87a-e32a-11e9-aef9-5b326693c162.html?fbclid=IwAR3K4roHmMqKvPtrQK9DuW5dDvhf-vgD8VIXiAS4-EoxYL-8Ksk36ChwYBQ

  8. Heritage Hills is very difficult to stop. Through six games there are five different rushers with over 225+ yards on the season, and no one has carried the ball over 55 times. Think about that: a team averaging 43+ points a game and no one player averages double digits in carries. Very balanced, very tough team. GS is a VERY good team, and will no doubt get going They had a few drops and miscues, but give HH their due, the first half was a clinic. Sigler definitely looked fast!!!!

  10. There names are Matthew Brown, Jacob Brittsan, Ethan Sturgeon, Noah Mack, Tucker Keevers, and Kyle King. I don’t remember Brett Law, but I’m sure he racked up all his TD’s in very close games against top notch competition every single week.

  12. I expected HH to win, but not by 35, so this game certainly raised some eyebrows. All in all, getting humbled in what was their biggest game of the year might be exactly what GS needed. Taking FP, NP, PCHS and SS to the woodshed certainly doesn't mean much. Maybe the 8 point loss to 6A Southport wasn't all it was hyped up to be. I expect GS will use this game to get re-focused and be a better team when the rematch rolls around. My take would be that GS has a lot of work to do if they want to get out of Sectional 32 and make a run.

  13. You’re right as usual Dave. NP was the 1st of the PAC to consolidate, in 1960. SS was next in 65. Tecumseh in 68. HH & SR in 72. And GS & PC in 74. (info courtesy of almanac sports.com. Dan’s site is a great reference for the history Indiana h.s. football.)

  14. There are a lot of personal fouls that don’t carry an automatic 1st down with their yardage penalty. Easiest way to remember is that only fouls that start with “roughing” carry an automatic 1st down: passer, kicker, holder and snapper.

  17. I completely agree. I think it will be a great matchup if they face each other in sectionals. Both teams have improved as the season has gone on, but I feel Cass may have the edge with their strength of schedule preparing them for sectionals.

  18. I know I’m a bit biased but how is nobody talking about Cass in 2A? I have yet to see anybody mention them to rep the North. I see people mention Pioneer (who already lost to Cass) and Western Boone (who lost to a Western team Cass just beat). Like I said, I know I’m biased but they have got talent all over the field, and are currently undefeated but nobody mentions them.

  21. Uh-oh. Sep 20 - Greenfield-Central 67 Shelbyville 0 Sep 27 - New Pal 68 Greenfield-Central 0 Oct 4 - Shelbyville at New Pal Point differentials thru 6 weeks: New Pal 310-54, Shelbyville 7-365 If Shelbyville wins the coin toss, I suggest that they defer to basketball season. Gotta wonder if any HS team before G-C has ever won a conference game by 67 & then lost a conference game by 68 in back-to-back weeks. Who's gonna look that up for us?

  22. sounds like Rondale is Hammy not Knee of the 44 guys on Purdue's 2 Deep. 33 are either Freshman, RS Freshman or Sophomores. That brings the team "team is young" to a whole new level. Also it would seem that Neal has chosen the BOSA route and will be sitting out the entire year as it seems like he has been healthy enough to play but chosen not to. I guess those off season 1st round grades he received probably has him thinking that instead of finishing out his career.

  23. I apologize if I am misspeaking, but I'm assuming New Prairie is still more of a ground and pound type offense under Coach Radtke correct? If so, much like Warsaw, that style of offense is always easier when playing from ahead. Plymouth was able to take advantage of some Tiger mistakes early in the game and Warsaw was playing catch-up the entire game. Baron can throw the ball all over the field and the Rockie defense is solid enough. Would I bet on Plymouth winning that potential match-up? No. Could they pull it off? Yes.

  24. Ill say Culver 55 Caston 12. Knox 22 Pioneer 20 LaVille 27 Glenn 13 North Judson 48 Triton 12 Winamac 36 West Central 12. Russell Compton is 11 yards away from moving into 6th all time in career passing and is 36 yards away from 2,000 for his career... Not to shabby for a kid that didn't start playing QB until half way through 8th grade.

  25. From_the_sidelines that sums it up right there. LaVille is not that far away, they are still on course for a 7-2 regular season record, which the last time I checked wasn’t to bad at all. If they can finish strong in their last three games, head into the sectional healthy and on a high note, I think any coach would take that. Go Lancers, beat Falcons!!

  27. From what I hear, the OC during the summer and at the ND 7-on-7 had to leave due to a job situation. Therefore, LaVille had to hurry and put in a new OC. Not sure if they are running the same type of offense as the former OC, or, if the new OC has input on any chnages. Offense, from what I've seen is very predicatable and very vanilla. That could be due to new OC. Coach H is the DC. He knows defense, at least IMO. He would admit he is not an offensive guy. I would disagree on Doyle being weak throwing the ball. When given some time, he has had multiple 20+ yard completions both last year and this year. His offensive line took a hit with graduation and this new OL needs time. Lets not throw the towel in just yet. They only have one returning OL from a year ago. Coach H has said they want to be playing best ball at the end of the season and into the sectional. Watts did suffer an ankle in the second half Saturday. That kept him out the rest of the game. The Knox defensive penetration didn't give the LaVille RBs much room to run. That is an OL issue. Pound for pound, Knox pushed the LaVille OL back and were in the backfield pretty quickly. That has be a point of emphasis moving forward. Knox was the better team .... no doubt about that. There were a couple of series in that game that turned the momentum. 3rd and long with LaVille knocking on the door, Doyle tried to make a play, get the ball out of bounds for an incompletion and the ball went backward. Knox picked it up and turned that in to points. What could have been points for LaVille turned in to points for Knox. Changed the whole complexion of the game. LaVille has stubbed its toe in a couple big games when they could get points and have come up empty. There is no rest this week either. Time for a backyard rivalry against Glenn. Records don't mean anything here .... Glenn will come at LaVille. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  28. Updated WRC power rankings for week 7: 1. Parke Heritage Wolfs - The Wolfs are unbeatable at this point. Watching them play is like watching Usain Bolt racing Rosie O'Donnell. It's not even close. 2. North Vermillion Falcons Another solid season is unfolding for the Falcons. It's not their fault they are in the same conference and sectional as the Wolfs. If you took the Wolfs out of the equation, NV would be WRC champs and probably win the sectional. 3. Attica Red Ramblers People can talk about how North Vermillion played a bad game against Attica, but the River Ewes tend to have that affect on teams. They are without a doubt the best going out of business team in Indiana. 4. Seeger Patriots Herb King has the fighting Mel Gibsons sitting at 4-2 (!) for the first time since 2007, which coincidentally was Brian Moore's last season at Seeger. With Sheridan, South Vermillion, and North Vermillion left on the schedule, the fighting Mel Gibson's have an excellent chance to finish the regular season with a 7-2 record. That's a lot of pooping in Herb's yard. He has to have the most lush lawn in Covington. 5. South Vermillion Wildcats Barrett's Boys took it on the chin Friday night, but so has everyone else that's played the Wolfs. Not even Greg Barrett's mighty visor could shield his eyes from the gleam of excellence emanating from Brian Moore's freshly shorn cranium. 6. Covington Trojans The Men of Troy got a nice bounce back win against South Newton last week. Look for Covington to knock out a few more wins in the coming weeks. 7. Riverton Parke Panthers With the Thunder Chickens on the schedule this week, look for the Panthers to pick up win number 3 on the season. I feel so confident about this that I would wager all of the stray dogs in Mecca on the outcome of this game. 8. Fountain Central Mustangs If only Brian Moore had left a little of his strong magic in Veedersburg.....brighter days are ahead for the Mustangs. Brian Moore once appeared in an episode of the Crocodile Hunter, where he caught a cobra with his right hand, a black mamba with his left hand, then tied them together in a knot. He was bitten several times by each snake during the process. The snakes eventually passed away because there is no anti-venom for Brian Moore's blood. Steve Irwin was so upset at the death of the snakes he would never allow the episode to be aired.

  29. Well, you all know how I love the Miners, and I would love to see us make a long run in the playoffs but realistically I think the season would be a success if we could win our first 2A Sectional title. Anything beyond that would be icing on the cake. We have a good shot this year but Mater Dei will be a tough out, not to mention a couple of others.

  32. Give it 10-15 years, I wouldn't be shocked to see Lawrence Central consolidate back to one school. With a stagnant population growth and trends of more and more families moving east into Hancock County (Mt. Vernon and New Pal), it wouldn't surprise me to see this happen. Property value and re-sale value of homes in Lawrence Township compared to those of sections of Hancock County suggest this.

  33. Heritage Hills wins and keeps rolling. If they play like last Friday against GS I think they go to Lucas Oil. Everyone has a bad game but they made GS look like a mediocre team. On a side note. Is it true Pike Central is down to under 22 players and will be forfeiting games? Has anyone heard this?

  36. They certainly had a chance to bring it to 21-28 in the 3rd quarter. But you just can’t turn the ball over like they did against a good team like HH. that and you have to be able to stop the run. I don’t have a vote in the All PAC voting but I think it’s pretty clear that Sigler is the MVP of the PAC. He is the best player on the field. It doesn’t matter if he is on offense, defense, or special teams.....in many ways, he reminds me of Kenton Crews...just perhaps even more versatile

  38. The one thing that has bothered me from the start of this thing, is the POTUS is not allowed private conversations with foreign heads of state? I have a giant problem with politicians once they're in power, using their authority to investigate their political rivals. "Lock her up" was a HORRIBLE idea. Just the very idea of an investigation post election was sickening to me. In Trump's case, this is exactly what's happened, dating to the BHO administration. Biden has admitted, in fact bragged on the campaign trail to exactly what Trump is being accused of. Look if this stuff rises to the point of impeachment fine, but it plays across the board. All subsequent administrations shall be held to the same standards and to the letter of the law. Trump has been his own worst enemy, he steps on his d#$ every chance he gets, but in my view, we are seeing a coup de t'etat right in front of us.

  39. It's good to see the Turkey Run/Rockville Co-op has found a few athletes. After watching their basketball team last November in the Linton Shootout, I assumed there wasn't an athlete in that entire school. My goodness that team was bad; unathletic, either fat or skinny and nothing inbetween. I want to eat later today, so enough about PH basketball. Sagarin has the Co-Op just outside the top 30 if you combine 1A-3A, roughly 45 point underdogs to 3A leader Chatard. It's always great to see when fans stay humble and see things realistically.

  43. Yeah that rule always throws me off because it's different than the college and pro rules. Aside from personal foul penalties, no penalty (including pass interference) grants a first down unless the penalty yardage exceeds the yardage needed to get a first down.

  48. Honestly I have been thinking similar recently. There is a....certain aggressiveness...to the way Bob calls the game. I live out of state so it’s hard for me to really find another way to follow live. there was one moment tonight that really caught me though on the broadcast. Aside from the usual hate for officials and officiating from the booth, I particularly didn’t think it was of good taste for Bob to scream “THROW THE BALL” after the 4th and goal play where Brady Allen was sacked. This was a later play, the one with the DPI and the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. To me at least, this moment was of really bad taste and i don’t care what others think but a broadcaster should never be yelling at a player. They may not hear it but all but the fans who just want to hear the game do. bad plays happen...losses happen. Players doing things other than what the spectator wants WILL happen...but yelling at a player over a broadcast shouldn’t happen. Ever. that’s just my two cents.
