  1. Usually they become fine Mexican restaurants. Hard to get a "speedy" at Auto Zone.

  3. Why am I not surprised you named a Martinsville QB? In no particular order, it's likely the QB from Homestead, LN, or Gibson Southern. Homestead's QB is going to be a Top 100-150 basketball recruit, so we won't know where he could have played football. I've seen highlights of LN's QB and that kid has a very, very, elite skillset. I would be surprised if he couldn't pick his destination. I haven't seen Gibson Southern's QB, but he is very highly rated for a Sophomore.

  4. The biggest case for not splitting up 1A is the fact that the two most successful 1A programs of the past decade are in the bottom 32 of enrollment. LCC and Pioneer have both won multiple state championships and are the only back to back champions to be moved up to 2A due to the success factor. Both schools were actually smaller in the past decade too. LCC was in the bottom ten in the past decade.

  5. Size and strength of Andrean to much for the Kings. I thought this years Cass team speed would be able to overcome their lack of size and strength upfront. Unfortunately, I was mistaken and the Kings were physically beat. The wet surface may have decreased the speed advantage a little. I haven't seen Eastbrook this year. I think you need a team like the Bombers (minus turnovers) to beat Andrean. Cass was unable to get the passing game going due to the pressure Andrean put on them and I think the wet surface. Couldn't run the ball consistently due to Andrean front 7 strength. Good luck to the 59ers and the Panthers.

  6. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a real thing. If you don't have safety as a basis it's hard to have anything else. That doesn't mean you still can't be successfully in a micro sense, but as a macro that's why more affluent schools can have a larger percentage of their good athletes be able to play and focus on football. If it was a guarantee Zionsville and Park Tudor would be dominant, but at Bob said it doesn't always apply. But not worrying about if you can get to games or practices or if you'll have food when you get home are big advantages. I worked an IPS game one year and they had #65 throwing to #72 in warm-ups. I asked the coach if those were his starting QB and receiver. He said they were today. He never knows until they get on the bus who will be playing that day. Some kids just don't show up. I doubt Carmel or Center Grove ever have that issue. It's not likely at township schools either, but more affluence and more stable home situations can be an advantage.

  7. Yeah, I was just browsing John Harrell’s upcoming game capsules and saw that Chatard and Mishawaka Marian had not played one another in football in at least 35 years (which is as far back as Harrell goes) and out of curiosity I scanned the other classes realizing that the same situation existed for all the 2A-5A games. Just one of those weird and interesting things that appealed to my short attention span.

  8. Years ago, while visiting our grandparents in Green Bay, we went to Mass, and the priest said you know, there is a reason that ordinary time vestments are green and gold. 😉

  9. This is the kind of whiny sour grapes that is very uncharacteristic of a classy program like Lewis Cass.

  10. Didn't want our semi-state match-up to be the only one without a thread on GID. I realize WW is the decided underdog in this game, just wanted to hear some folks ideas on what we would have to do to win this game. Have been following 1A all year and am well aware of Lutheran's strengths and weaknesses (none of which seemed to display in their contest with NV). WW has had a strong defense all season with the Paoli and Salem games being the only exceptions. The last two games have been our best two examples of complete games on both sides of the ball. We had a strong goal line stand at the end of the 1st half to hold North Decatur to a field goal instead of a touchdown which seemed to shift momentum in the 2nd half. Probably will require a "perfect" game on our part with some turnovers from Lutheran in order for us to advance. But then again that is why we suit up and play the game. Looking forward to this game and rooting hard for the Senators. Anyone else?

  11. Let's talk competitive balance. If you plot any random sample on a chart you end up with a bell curve. Who in their infinite wisdom decided 5A should have 32 teams and 1A 64 or so? Logically it doesn't make sense, so what was the real reason? The farther away from the median enrollment across all classes the larger the disparity (percentage in smaller schools) and by count in the larger. Does the IHSAA know math?

  15. I did a google search for distances from Heritage Hills to the high schools we played in 2000 and 2004 because if we win Friday we would have 3 trips to state and only 1 home game each time. Did the high school distances and added Indianapolis distance for the final and used Indy for Chatard 2004 also because believe game was at Pike but cant remember for sure. 2000 @ Washington 93.8 @ Mount Vernon 114.4 Memorial home @ Whiteland 265 @ Roncalli 278.4 State 279.8 total miles round trip 1031.4 2004 @ Sullivan 182.2 @ Princeton 102 Mater Dei home @ Batesville 351.8 @ Chatard 279.8 State 279.8 total miles round trip 1195.6

  16. LOL. If you were actually at the game, you have a very faulty memory. Woodlan winning that game was one of the more miraculous endings I can remember. Eastbrook had the ball with a fresh set of downs in Woodlan territory with 4 minutes left and a 2 point lead. Miraculously, I think Eastbrook fumbles on 3 running plays in a row, recovering the first 2 but losing the 3rd. Still, Woodlan had the ball on their side of the field with under 3 minutes remaining and had not kicked a field goal all season and was able to kick one that was almost blocked by 2 Eastbrook players as time expires. Eastbrook was the best team in 2A that season. Give credit to Woodlan for finding a way to hang in and pull out a W but Eastbrook screwed up just about everything to give that game away.

  17. I admit this game will be a challenge for us, just want to emphasize that this group of Senators have earned the right to be on the field with any 1A team in the state. I’m believing for an upset by the Senators. We are playing the best football we have played all year.

  18. I was at that game. Woodlan should have won that more then they did. They had some pretty electric players they didn't get the ball much. They rode their RB a tad bit too much but that cat was good.

  19. Batesville's Home stands are covered but they are not as nice or big as the home stands at Enlow. I believe the covered stands at Batesville have been around since the late 80's? Maybe @Coffin K9 can give you a more accurate date?

  22. Could be. Danville has become just yet another bedroom community for the Indianapolis metropolitan urban sprawl area.

  23. Yes. They used to have one but it closed about 15 years ago. The building was torn down and replaced with an auto parts store.

  24. Marian has had a great season, only losing to Mishawaka in a tight game. Having said that, our starting RB went out in the second quarter of the Sectional Championship game against Jimtown, and in the third quarter of that game our starting QB went out. Neither played last week, and our offense is definitely challenged without them. I am not hearing optimism about them being back for Friday. At full strength it would have been a huge challenge for the Knights to hang with Chatard. Without the starting QB or RB....

  25. A honest unbiased opinion. Its gonna be obviously tough. Even if we had maintained full health all year this wouldve been a tough game. I think we can score but I doubt we've seen an offense all year like Lutherans. 1-2 is our record against them. I look for Lutheran to win and to win state. Im really happy for the kids and coaching staff to finally break through. Had some really good teams over the years that couldnt get out of regionals. Looking forward to seeing them all compete and be ready to play. Good luck to both teams and shall the winner hit state without any injuries this weekend.

  26. I know that this question is going to sound a little inappropriate but I am going to ask anyway: I know that Mishawaka Marian has had a great season, this is undeniable. But down here in the south all we have heard is how unstoppable Chatard is!! Question: Is there a chance in this game for an upset??

  27. I thought Ralston Evans would be a great head coach one day.. he was our JV Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator and Varsity OL coach.. former player at Indiana University.. Man he had our O-line rolling but left for the University of Illinois before the start of this season.. heck of a young man and cared about the kids a lot heard nothing but great things about him

  31. James Arnold, South Adams. Threw for over 3,000 yards and 43 TD's. Could drop a penny in a coke can from 40 yards away.

  32. Coach Foster used to be an assistant at EN, he was extremely well liked by players and coaches. I am sure they would love to still have him on the staff. It will be a packed house on Friday. Sounds like Hobart is bringing a bunch of fans, and this is the only game in the Fort Wayne area so it will attract a lot of people. I would expect it to be standing on both sides, not sure if EN is going to try to bring in more bleachers or not. I watched some Hobart games including the NP game from last Friday. EN has a lot of weapons offensively. They will not struggle to move the ball and score, and I do not think Hobart will have trouble moving the ball and scoring. I think this game is going to come down to who makes to least amount of mistakes. EN 35 Hobart 28

  37. That’s a very good point! Having a kicker you can count on to make longer field goals in high school is a luxury and an advantage! We’ll just hope it doesn’t come down to that. Eastbrook won semi-state last year on a last second kick and lost the year before on one.

  38. Let me guess...you were convinced your hometown heroes were winning State after beating West Lafayette and Pioneer? Also, 5959 Broadway is in MERRILLVILLE, not Gary. Second, have you seen their school and facilities!?! What money do you think they have? 🤣

  39. Interesting: Rensselaer Central didn't have any of those issues in our game with them. in my experience, when going against Private/Catholic schools, the moment fanbase, players, coaches start talking about "best team money can buy in 2a" then they are already beat. Field conditions were the same for both teams.

  40. Until Andrean moves locations, their field will always be a tough place to play. Home field advantage is an understatement there.
