maybe because your dumb crusade to downgrade schools who are in classification of 1a is the reason?? I don't know, maybe just that or your ideals of getting ride of an entire classification of football is beyond comprehension. I would pay top dollar for you to go up to Coach Larry "Bud" Wright and tell him his 400 plus wins and 9 state championships are pointless.7 points

Having coached in many 1a games we, love the work done by all the officials that have worked these games and put in time in to help better our sport! We have started a class this school year "Advanced Team Sports" that is going to focus on helping seniors work to become licensed in sports that they play. By doing the sport in class we will work some of the mechanics of the specific sport, help the students with rules and interpretations, and how to handle issues with fans. We have had contact through the IHSAA who has been very helpful and has helped pass along some materials to help in teach the class. We are planning to have the students do some youth games in the area to get first hand experience. Goal is to have them graduate and be able to officiate next year in the sports that they have chosen.5 points

We got spirit yes we do .... we got spirit how 'bout you? Seems there are personal citations here that go down to the roots. We talking HNAC Week 7 or about this happened and I know who you are and all the coaches share a code name on this chat. Pardon us while we reach for a program and history book to attempt at a GID education. If you followed that, jump in line for a diploma signed by Coach Nowlin, notarized by WCGrad92 and authorized by the GID board. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines0073 points

In what world is Gibson Southern the 3rd best team in Southern Indiana... ABOVE Evv Memorial!? this is absurd. Not taking anything away from HH. The top 3 teems on any given day are HH, Central, and Memorial. I'm not sure Gibson has proven themselves to be in the top 7 on this list yet. They have ZERO notable wins this year.3 points

TH Anything can happen on Friday Nights. Everyone on the digest states their opinions. Everyone knows the KINGS are talented and has weapons. Who cares about the talk. They are number 1 in the polls, and I'm not worried about state championship predictions. I'm worried about this Friday Night. One week at a time my friend.3 points

Yeah, Pioneer really ran up the stats in the Winamac game last year. Jack had 2 carries for 61 yards and 1 TD. If someone was going after records, then wouldn't they call his number more than twice in the 2nd game of the year? Oh wait, maybe it was the Winamac Coach and the QB (Compton) trying to help set some records and running the stats up themselves, throwing 5 pick 6's (actually 4, but the 5th was returned to the 5 yard line so might as well count it). How about run the ball and thus the clock!! Keep searching Ultimate. I'm sure you will find its all a conspiracy theory in the end.2 points

Coaching against them the past two years I would actually argue that their pass defense is better this year than last. They returned more on the outside than inside defensively and seemed pretty sound. Granted that was week 2 and things change, but they are long and disruptive in the secondary especially on clear passing downs.2 points

I wonder when the last time Trinity has played on grass? 7 years? Maybe it will be an advantage. Either way, the venue was rocking for the northside Catholic battle 3 weeks ago. I’m hopeful it remains that way for a Top 20 Max Preps program. I think we are 0-4 against them, but we’re due for an out of state W. Here is Arlington as of 3 weeks ago:2 points

I've read many of your posts in other threads. You often bring relevant conversations to the table and keep good chatter going. But man oh man...you really really really should let go of this obsession with PH vs Linton. We can hypothesize until the sign rises in the west, but there is zero chance we will EVER truly know how these two teams would do against one another this year. It simply will never happen. Can't we just focus a little more on the actual games that are happening, or at least the games that have SOME potential of happening down the road? Just my 2 cents.1 point

Sounds good NK94. As I said, I've always liked visiting Warrior Field. It's a great venue and a unique experience from the home side. You can see all of the routes developing by the receivers and the holes open in the line for the rb's. Love it!1 point

going back to the New Pal schedule.... I don't have any numbers to back this up but I really don't think New Pal's schedule is as terrible as most are saying. I think they are really dominant and have made it look easy these last few years. The HHC isn't a great conference but I don't think it deserves the criticism it has received early in this thread. lets just call a spade a spade.... It is a 4A conference (except Yorktown). New Pal is a 4A team. I'm sure new pal would fit great in that conference with Franklin, Whiteland, and Mooresville, but you cant just bolt conferences when you have a couple good years. Obviously Greenfield is always horrible and shelbyville is on another level of horrible last year and this year but historically they are one of the better programs in the conference. Just looking at this year, Delta is solid, Mt. Vernon and Pendleton are no slouch either. Yorktown is a decent 3A team and then you drop to New Castle, G-C, and Shelbyville. @CaptainHook I can;'t wait for 10/18. if Delta can get by PHHS this Friday it will be a showdown of unbeatens for the helmet and the HHC title. My score prediction would be something along the lines of 51-17 for NP, but it will be a good atmosphere and that is how conference titles should be decided!!1 point

You mean to tell me someone at LHS has more than one account SHOCKING!!! Not to stir the pot but I didn't think that post was that out of line. JR was a great coach and person just my opinion, never understood the need to bash a person who doesn't have a chance to defend themselves and didn't think that post was doing that. FYI its 2 people Jimmy and Chuck with one computer sometimes they argue with each other sometimes with themselves.1 point

Yeah Sindelar has a broken clavicle. They act like he can return, but I'd be surprised if he does. Plummer looks good and will be good with experience. The difference from the TCU game to the Minnesota game was very apparent with him. At one point, Purdue had 7 freshmen on offense and 6 on defense. It's hard to win at any level like that, and they still had every chance to win. It looks like it could be a disappointing season with all the injuries mounting, but for once, I feel like there is a lot of hope to be had because the team is very young and there is a lot of raw talent out there. I am confident this staff will coach them up, they will improve and there will be better days ahead.1 point

I have the utmost respect for our High School Officials. I've witnessed some pretty nasty behavior in the stands of games. Glad to see some Officials stand up to it. Inevitability is a challenge. Anything inevitable is usually predicted. The fight is to keep it from happening. It’s always on the horizon, just hanging there in plain sight, but it’s just ignored. No one thinks it’s going to happen in their lifetime. No one wants the responsibility of cleaning up the mess. So, what happens when the inevitable becomes reality? We are about to find out. Last week, the Eastern Panhandle Officials Association decided it had had enough. The group severed ties with the Tri-County Youth Football League (TCYFL) in West Virginia. The referee organization announced its decision in a release, pointing to “poor behavior” presented as “abuse, negativity and utter disrespect shown to our officials from parents, coaches and most recently our players.” The organization elected to stop working all the youth football games. That’s right. The zebras left the reservation. They literally took their ball and went home. After years of being the subjects of public ridicule, these referees finally hit the breaking point. Every breath they took. Every move they made. Every rule they enforced. Everyone was watching them … and complaining. It’s tough being right only half of the time, if you’re lucky. With this move, the officials said “you need us more than we need you.” And they are right. Now, the TCYFL is at a standstill. The league was entering the final stages of the regular season to qualify teams for their playoffs. And now every kid is sidelined. There are no title games. No championships. No trophies, to be earned or given for feel-good reasons. In essence, the entire season has become nothing more than an asterisk. And the reason is simple. These players are unable to utilize the skills they have learned on a playing field because of the behavior they were learning at home. That is a culture of “abuse, negativity and utter disrespect” that is prevalent at practically every game on every level these days, coming from “parents, coaches and most recently our players.” And here’s the news. These problems don’t stem from the referees. Local-level referees aren’t perfect. They will admit that. They try their best in very challenging situations and times, multiplied by a group of people in the stands who think they know better. The funny thing is if the critics are so knowledgeable, why aren’t they volunteering to take the field. It’s a lot easier sitting up in the stands, pointing out perceived infractions 100 feet away from the field. Refs have the worst seat in the house. They are in the middle of the action with many obscured views. Yet, they suffer the trickle-down wrath of a world controlled by instant replay. Referees choose to do this job because they have two attributes — passion and integrity. They love the game and still want to be involved for its betterment and they approach the game without playing favorites, no matter what some people think. You know what happens when you fight authority. Authority always wins. Parents and coaches in these youth contests continue to come up with new ways to amaze. They continue to live vicariously through the games their kids play. They fight and scream like every play is stealing food off the family table. They believe their kids are destined to be the next great high school and college players who will get to play in the NFL. They will tell you that. The problem escalates with coaches, who try to intimidate the referees instead of instructing their teams. Coaching staffs can be seen screaming on every play, trying to guilt officials into making the next call a favorable one. How long does it take before players — especially the young, impressionable ones — start believing all odds are stacked against them. Your parents and coaches can’t be wrong, can they? Now that’s building our children a foundation for a successful future. No one considers that games are still decided by the best team winning, at least on that day. It’s amazing what a little coaching, encouragement and confident words can do. You have to wonder how these adults would react if their kids came to their jobs and started yelling at their bosses and department heads. That might be embarrassing. Wonder how the kids feel? The TCYFL is working to repair the burnt bridges between the league and the officials. They realize that a good thing in the community was ruined by a selfish few. The process will probably consist of promises, new rules and a bit of groveling. “That’s definitely our goal,” said TCFYL commissioner Doug Arndt to the Martinsburg Journal. “It’s a shame but the message has been sent. We are not alone. It’s happening all over the country. “This is for the kids. Let the little guys play. We don’t need all this stuff in the stands and all this stuff on the sidelines.” That remains a work in progress. The world of sports has become increasingly combative and overly self-centered in recent years, especially off the field. About a year ago, this column presented the idea that the sport of football will disappear someday in the future. There were many reasons, like participation and health, but one notion was the game will end when there are no longer any referees to officiate games. This idea was very hypothetical, but this instance could be the first sign of football’s apocalypse. Is that the next inevitability on the horizon? Only time will tell. https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/opinion/parasiliti-refs-decide-to-take-ball-go-home/article_c686a87a-e32a-11e9-aef9-5b326693c162.html?fbclid=IwAR3K4roHmMqKvPtrQK9DuW5dDvhf-vgD8VIXiAS4-EoxYL-8Ksk36ChwYBQ1 point

I remember when Eastbrook(when we were 3A) and WL would play each other in the tournament, they were very good back then (around 2008) if i remember right the QB at the time won Mr. Football. Its nice to see teams keep the winning going as players graduate and new players filled in. Glad we are back down to 2A 🙂, very excited for the postseason to start. Cass is the real deal. They were the real deal last year, took us giving our best effort to barely beat them at home.1 point

I realize this is a troll, but at the same time as an official give me a good game regardless of class any day. In close games there are pivotal plays. Where everyone is laser focused, you know you have to be good on this play. There are a handful of games over the course of your career where every play of the game is like this. These games are rare, and among the most fun to work. And if you're fortunate enough to walk off the field knowing you had it covered, there is no better feeling in the world.1 point

I happen to know the crew working the Shelbyville New Pal game. They are driving from Evansville!! When there was a possibility the game wouldn't be played I expect they weren't heartbroken. Blowouts are the hardest games to work because you have to work harder to concentrate every play. Close games are fun because it's easy to concentrate. And they aren't stressful because you don't care how each play or the game ends. They are just another play.1 point

If they were concerned about offensive stats, pretty sure Kiser would have had wayyyy more carries during the regular season. Defensive shutout record was a team goal prior to the season starting. Hows Compton’s W/L record while accumulating stats?1 point

A year of the toss-ups. Chance for some non-conventional schools to play on Thanksgiving... 1A will be nice to see a school from the North not named Central Catholic or Pioneer. 2A may finally see Mater Dei raise the trophy after all of this 21st century success with no titles 3A that West Laf, Chatard, Guerin Catholic and Brebeuf might have the best non-6A talent out of any sectional 4A interests me. Could see a few schools making their first appearances in a very long time, maybe for the very first time in Lucas Oil. 5A has 4 legitimate teams IMO.. New Pal (obviously), Valpo, 4A champs Dwenger, and Cathedral 6A Look out for a Lafayette Jeff run. North 6A could be vulnerable for a non-Penn/Carmel representative1 point
