Yeah the level of stupidity we are dealing with. We have you and DE saying Trump really won when he didn't, we have a bunch of "lawyers" going around and getting stupid cases lined up that end up getting dismissed because how crazy their reason behind the litigation is. Avon game FC was horrible....coaching,talent...everything...they were down 28 and trash talking like crazy while wearing the ugliest uniforms. Maybe the HCC can package a trade and send FC and Noblesville to another conference.

As is the case annually, several recent threads have touched on the debate about the best playoff system for Indiana football. This is not about that ... at least, not directly. If Indiana had never utilized any playoff format — just played a 10 game regular season like they used to, and that was it — and decided to start from scratch to design one, what would it look like? The goals of the playoff are as follows, in no particular order, and attributing whatever weight to each goal you think appropriate: Determine a worthy champion in each class. Make the caliber of Indiana high school football as good as it can be. Generate revenue. Increase the visibility of and interest in Indiana high school football by making as many regular season games as meaningful as possible. Also, any explanation or justification that accompanies your proposal cannot give either of these two reasons: 1. “It’s always been that way.” 2. “Because we can.” Now, you are now the czar of the IHSAA. You have absolute power. Aside from appointing me to the newly-created position of “Grand Poobah of Football Officiating,” how do you exercise your power over the form the post-season takes? What do your playoffs look like?

Anyone, (news media, kid's family, SJW's, etc.) that would honestly say the ref is ruining the kids life if he does file charges or other is kidding themselves. The player did that the minute he chose to leave the sidelines and rush the ref. He has to accept the consequences of his actions - a concept that is largely lost on kids in our society today.

This is the latest info from just the last several minutes on a Texas football forum - so take it for what it's worth. Got folk down here stirred up big time. Charges have been filed - class A misdemeanor. Player is supposedly in jail with $10K cash bond. Player is suspended from school for the remainder of the year. US31 is correct, the school board met with district (conference) officials and they have removed the school from the playoffs. The UIL (Texas' version of IHSAA) used to require an ejected player to leave the sidelines (i.e. go to locker room), but changed it allowing them to stay on sidelines, just can't play. This might make them re-think that one.

I saw a little bit longer clip than the one posted. It started with 88 making a late hit on the qb, and off camera I think a fight ensued back on that side and a coach was trying to separate the people involved in that. Either way, that kid just sealed his fate with any future in football.

On the face of it, that seems logical. Fewer tournament games = less revenue. But actually the opposite will happen, for two reasons: 1. While there may be fewer tournament games, there will be more regular season games. In fact, with 5A and 6A teams able to schedule an 11th game in the bye week, there will actually be more total games played in the season than under the present system. Regular season games are a better deal than a first round sectional for the host school anyway, since they don’t have to split the pot. Keep in mind that all the revenue ends up in the same place, whether it’s tournament revenue or regular season revenue: it all goes to the schools after IHSAA operating expenses are deducted. 2. To the extent playoff games generate more revenue than regular season games, the qualification/seeding format creates a new class of games: “playoff-like” regular season games. More important, with more at stake, than regular season games, these games might include a week 9 matchup between two 4-4 teams. Under the current system, that game is basically a “I hope I don’t get anyone hurt for the start of sectionals” game. But under my format, that could essentially be a playoff game. More “playoff-like” regular season games = more regular season revenue. So, fewer tournament games might mean less tournament revenue. But it doesn’t mean less total revenue. And from the schools’ standpoint, that’s what really matters.

Just seems like a no-brainer to me...plus I think that Lafayette Jeff was sort of proven to be a paper tiger these last two seasons...they have problems of their own when it comes to scheduling. Jeff needs the DAC schools more than the alternative.

@Bobref In regards to "generate revenue"....how would less tournament games achieve this? I would piggy back this on top of the dismissal of "because we can". I'm not disagreeing with much of your proposal, there is a lot to agree with from a football perspective. But if "we can" do an all in tournament, in order to "generate more revenue"....isn't that the responsible thing for the IHSAA to do? I would definitely agree with anything that would get us "better games" (via seeding, neutral sites, rolling success factor, etc), but not necessarily "less games" for reasons above.

South Bend had a feasibility study done about their used of buildings. It was suggested that 5 to 8 buildings be eliminated. No one knows what buildings they suggested. The problem is when a building is eliminated, charters can buy them for a dollar. That would be a signifiant loss of revenue. My high school suggestion would be to combine Clay and Washington and locate them at Lasalle (former high school). Expand the Riley district into Adams. That would give South Bend 3 high schools with about 1600 students.

Ok, change for the sake of changing is no good. I remember Brohm had a hell of a lot less to start with , than what Wilson left Allen with. So D needs to beef up a little bit. A few tweaks.

It's really a non-issue since they aren't dropping down to 5A. But Merrillville is one of those schools who will play where they are told. If they did happen to drop down to 5A, there is absolutely no way their administration would elect to play up. They don't have enough sustained tournament success to warrant doing that. If they were in 5A, they would reach semi-state at least 50% of the time and possibly state 25% of the time. Not only will they add to their trophy case, but more importantly, more revenue for their athletic department. But like DT said, it's not happening with the states 25th largest enrollment.

Well I knew it would not take long for you to post your "Kick out the Catholics" take. As stated in all my previous posts, you might have 5% of the Administrators and few if any walking the halls of the IHSAA headquarters that support this. But you keep trying!

Split private and public into there own tournament private is 2 classes big and small public goes on as is now 1-6 with success factor will create parity and easy to implement

Coach Brevard is a sensational human being.

Lake Central to Penn is 85 miles. LC to Elkart is over 90. That sounds like loads of fun for a mid-week swimming or wrestling meet. The kids can do their homework on the way there since it will be too dark on the way back.... I bet the many LC parents who work in Chicago will love the drive after commuting through city traffic.

Hopefully to Snider if he doesn't stay at North, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him wearing Navy and Gold... It's also spelled Brauntae 😉 He also plays Basketball so I wouldn't expect him to leave North in all honesty.

Seeding the sectionals is a good start, but as this year showed, the Sagarin ratings wouldn't be a good indicator due to the number of games some teams played and it not taking out of state games under consideration. I'm not sure of another way to seed if the Sagarin is out of the equation. Regionals and semi-states on neutral fields. There are plenty of ways to figure out how to make $$$ off of this idea. Let teams in 5A & 6A schedule a 10th regular season game. Sometimes a week off isn't necessarily a good thing.

I guess I don't quite understand, who says you have to earn spots into playoffs? I mean I know there are pro, college, and High School states that do a playoff format that you have to earn your way in. That being said there is more than 1 playoff format: Single elimination, step ladder, double elimination, best of format, and Round Robin. As much as there is pointed at Ohio because they have a playoff you have to earn your way in, they do that because there are 700+ High Schools playing football. The numbers in Texas and California are very high too. Running an all in format wouldn't be possible without shortening the regular season (see Ohio this year 6 Reg season games). In Indiana there are about 320 football playing high schools so hosting an all in with 9 regular season games is doable. Yes I know many say it would make regular season more meaningful, but you could make it more meaningful with a seeeding process and home field advantage 2. There is not just "1" way to host a playoff. The term playoff in the dictionary doesn't specify you have to earn your way in, its simply a system of games after the regular season to decide which teams advance to play for the championship.

Everybody at Ben Davis is always following "The Guy" since 2003. Dick Dullaghan set the standard of Ben Davis as a State Championship winning program (though Bob Wilbur got them close in the late 70's). Everyone who follows him will always be the guy following THE guy. Same for Penn or any program that has been lucky enough to have a Dullaghan or a Geesman or a Moore or an all-time great.

There doesn't need to be competitive balance in COLLEGE football where teams RECRUIT against each other. All of the colleges and universities have equal access to student athletes. You're telling me Pike Central can go out and recruit all over the country like those college teams mentioned? That logic doesn't make sense to me

When you stop to realize that the varsity games were top upperclassmen vs top underclassmen, the JV games were top underclassmen vs bottom underclassmen, and the frosh games were top frosh against what was left down, it is less impressive. Time will tell. That’s not shade at CG as much as it is an acknowledgment that WC and BD are far from dead.

Does anyone else see that this is a problem? We have the same 4 champions in 6A and P/P are over represented in State Titles compared to the number of P/P schools in the state. If you remove the Big 4 in 6A and all P/P from State Title leaders, here is your list: Sheridan 9 Penn 5 Hobart 4 Jimtown 4 Tri-West 4 Franklin Central 4 No public school under 6A has been able to maintain consistent dominance in any level like the P/P schools and the Big 4 in 6A. This is a problem that needs addressed. I think the answer is moving up those P/P schools from 3A-5A into 6A and 1A-2A into 4A. Because I think Cathedral or Roncalli would have had a chance to win 6A and Luers could have beat Hobart in 4A. Why can't the P/P schools "get better" instead of putting the blame on public schools? It's not like Peru can just reload with kids every year because they have minimal access to kids because of their location whereas Concordia has probably 10x the access to kids compared to Peru. I don't know.... I just think there's a problem with competitive balance when we have the same teams winning over and over again. It comes to a point where it's not about the whole "get better, quit complaining, fix your feeder program" and it's time to take a real look at how to create some competitive balance

Never thought I would see the day when the suburban school with 2700 kids took it to programs like WC/BD and beat them into submission. 2021-22 will be the deciding factors to whether or not it is a trend or just a speed bump. I know where you stand... (Calling this thread now for over 100 responses with over 50 percent of them being insults @DT for his "hot take." Folks so easily "offended" yet play right into his hands.)

This is just another DT hot take to try to ruffle some feathers. You could make the argument, and actually I will, make the argument, at seasons end Ben Davis was 2nd best in the MIC. 4 Semi-State appearances in 5 years. They’re fine. BD started slow due to covid, having less practice time than their opponents as they faced schools in Hendricks County. By seasons end, they were better than both teams. Then, I’m the regional they beat Carmel. Who was better in the MIC besides CG at seasons end? WC had a down year but I don’t believe they’re worse off as a program. 2 years removed from a historically great program. Won a sectional this year. This is another program that will be fine based on returning talent next year. Did you know that WC went 5-6 in 2012? Many would say the talent was dry that year as well, but they’ve responded with 7 sectional titles and 2 state titles since that year. Both BD and WC will soon reign again in 6A and you’ll be tucking your tail between your legs as you do with most of your hot take posts. Why the need to have such expectations on teenage kids? The urban school kids continue to amaze me while people such as DT only judge based off of records and championships.

PhilLee and Bobref proposals are similar and both make a lot of sense. A big difference is the number of teams in 6A and 5A. I would like to see 16 6A teams and then divvy up the remaining teams into the 5 classes. The enrollment disparity in 6A from the top schools (Carmel and Ben Davis) and the bottom 16 of the current 32 in 6A is massive and needs to be addressed.
