I forgot to touch on the costs. Our collation is just over $200 a month. I budget it at $2500 a year. The forum software went up from $170/yr to $240/yr this fall (they hadn't changed the price for e over 10 years though). Our SSL certificate runs $399 every 2 years so $200/yr. We own the .net, .com, .org, and .info URLs which costs about $100/yr to keep the registrations up to date. To keep the hard drives on a 3 year replacement rotation it costs between $100/yr to $150/yr depending on the current market prices. Then there's all the hours I put in that would be billed at $75-$100/hr that I charge exactly $0/yr for 🙂. I'm sure that are a few minor incidentals I'm leaving out but it's pretty easy to see how quickly we reach an annual operating cost north of $3k. I don't mind sharing these numbers at all. I think I had a similar post on a recent years post where it was ask. I think this thing has far outgrew anything Tim ever imagined when he started it up.

I one is talking about Evansville Mater Dei. Losses to 9-0 Jasper and always tough 7-2 Memorial. Other south sleepers Linton, Monrovia, Speedway, and LCC. I think we are headed for another Luers vs Mater Dei final.

In some cases yes, but not as much as some people think. It will probably have a bigger impact now that they've limited votes to crews you've seen in the last 3 years. That will likely compress the difference the coach vote portion will have between crews. I do think some weight needs to be given to those crews who have worked late in the tournament previously. That has to mean something.

I see the finest athletic programming in the state, Summit City Sports, will be airing the East Noble / Leo game. I'll be tuning in.

I think Gibson Southern is becoming the favorite to many fans….but kinda in the way Linton was a few years back. People around the state see them winning every year but not winning the hardware…..want them to get over the hump.

Wrigley Franklin (G/DE) qualified for Regionals in the Discus as a Sophomore. He would have out thrown the MD guys as well. Linton had 4 guys that threw 42'+ in the shot put. I'm a little shocked the Ralph kid doesn't throw... his explosive power seems a natural fit for shot put. Gennicks and Lynn were good hurdlers... both were injured for track sectionals. Both would have had a chance of advancing. Smith, Franklin, Gennicks, and Webb should be big pieces for what looks to be a really good Miner basketball team this Winter. Personally, I love to see multi-sport guys. It is a major accomplishment for these young men who can commit the time to all these sports and still be contributors.

This is the kind of team that can win it all! I believe Eastbrook is underrated, even though they just jumped up to the number one spot. I've watched three of their games live(the rest on radio) I have watched 70% of 2a games on several sites including IHSAA channel. 90% of the top 2a contender games.The tougher progression, as the games play out, negates Eastbrooks weak conference. I like the Linton-Stockton Miners in the south and the Panthers in the north. If EHS doesn't rep the north, Andrean will... in my opinion

Completely agree, it's unfair to call it like that. IMO, this wasn't a down year, but instead all the traditional non-powers in the conference were actually playing better, meaning this would actually be a tougher year in the conference. Don't underestimate the play of Northrop, Wayne, and North Side just because Luers was at the top.

I'm going to give the 2021 IHSAA Tournament Round 1 SIAC "Lou Holtz Award" to Coach Mike Goebel of the MD Wildcats. On his radio show, he just expressed great concern about the 3-6 Forest Park Rangers. Said they were just a play or two away from winning another 3-4 games. He's the master...

Memorial and coach Hurley. 5 trips in 13 seasons. He’s pretty good at finding his way through the tournament. If they can find a way to beat Jasper anything is possible. He’s figured out how to win semi states when they are the underdogs.

Eastbrook will visit Lapel and Tipton will visit Alexandria in the second round, with Eastbrook and Tipton advancing to the sectional championship game, to be held at Tipton. Eastbrook will go into Tipton and take home a hard fought win and sectional championship! That’s the way I see this playing out.

I'd say it would be between Carroll, Traders Point or Clinton Prairie.

FC is not a pushover at this point, hosting and a greater than average pain to drive to on a Friday rush hour. Three weeks can help the body heal more and a team can prepare more, but also extended time off from competition can be a negative for playoff level competition.

Don't get me wrong, I could also totally see tomorrow night's game being a blowout if EN cannot limit the big plays, but between EN or Leo I see the winner of this game making it to semi-state 100%.

Not sure if they’re considered a dark horse but the Mishawaka Cavemen with senior quarterback Justin Fisher (hopefully healthy). They should get Michigan city in the sectional and Valpo in the regional in what will be 2 outstanding matchups

They have a grass field that was so bad last week that by the second quarter you could not tell who was who on the field.

I’m going to throw Jasper into the thread here. Although they might not get out of their sectional. Relatively quiet for the last decade or so they seem to be thriving in their new conference. They certainly aren’t as show time tested as East central, Chatard or Roncalli or even teams in their own conference. But they do have a coach who has been and knows the scenery in high profile match ups. The Germans have the athletes in their school , winning the big boy baseball state this year. I don’t know , but they seem to be going about their business down there in a workman like fashion.

Dismissing Brebeuf, West Lafayette Lawrenceburg and Danville huh? I don’t disagree that GS may be the favorite but it’s slight at best. I maintain this is the most competitive class.

I have been kicked off of 3 different shared hosting companies due to a breach of contract. This forum dominates the processor (actually MySQL is what does it) and it isn't fair to the others sharing the space. We had one that was just $7 a month for hosting and their bandwidth caps were large enough based on our past use at the time. so we set up there and didn't last 60 days until I go the eviction email stating we were breaking their network. I think that was the last one before I rented a dedicated server then later we got our own and collocate it in Fort Wayne.

Maybe just a hunch or I am reaching? 1. The Duneland seems better in 2021 than it was in 2020. Chesterton emerged as a solid squad, Valpo seems better, even Crown Point was fairly formidable. All that being said, Merrillville ran roughshod to though the conference unscathed. 2. Their two non conference wins were over teams that should be playing well into November. That should not be overlooked. 3. Maybe, just perhaps chemistry was an issue in 2020 with the transfers they obtained? (This is a complete shot in the dark as I have no actual evidence.) 4. Experience. The majority of their players have a sectional/regional title under their belts and have experience in the semi state round. They’ll be prepared. 5. The disrespect/fuel factor. While I don’t think kids/coaches are reading any bulletin board nonsense here, in this day of social media it’s impossible to miss. Teams from outside of central Indiana HAVE to be sick and tired of hearing how they cannot compete. Listen, I could be way off base here and as recently as 3-4 weeks ago, I’d call Westfield in a walk over but I just have a feeling about this Merrillville team. Their disposal of a good Valpo team on their home field and destruction of a damn fine Chesterton team really opened my eyes. Westfield is a damn fine football team and deserves all of the respect and accolades they are receiving. This is by no means disrespect to them at all. Many folks on here paint me as someone who stirs the pot (and I sometimes deserve it) but I’ll also be the first one on here to admit I’m wrong next month if that’s the case.

In all honestly, LCC doesn't usually get any rallying even when they are in the north. In the past, folks in the north and south didn't have much problem rallying round Sheridan in the glory days depending on where the lines were drawn. Yeah, it's odd seeing LCC in the south, but I suspect that if LCC somehow makes it all the way to LOS ... Harrell's gives them a 1.95% of that happening, so this discussion may be over long before Thanksgiving ... there'll be a lot more complaining about two P/Ps in LOS 2A than a "carpetbagger" representing the south.

It appears I’m wrong but, that being the case, it would appear that schools like Cathedral, Roncalli and Luers will still need to acquire enough points this year to total 6 before they move up. Basically, it IS rolling for this year and last year….not sure about afterwards. Still, makes me wonder if the IHSAA has fully thought through the ramifications. I’m betting not all the schools are clear on this. I’m certainly not.

I agree this portion of the process is not a major differentiator, but it does play a bigger factor than you are implying for crews that consist of 3 more members who worked the state final previously. You'll eventually get into the new/returning aspect of this for the later rounds but ultimately you are either "competing" with crews who have worked a state final or those who have not. 50% of the crews working regional and beyond fall either side of that difference. Most of the crews who feel slighted by the process are on the "new" side of that. The only way a crew gets all 50 points is if they have at least 3 officials who have worked a state final previously. If they've worked a semi-state they start with 49, regional 48, most of the rest 47. That 3-point difference can make a huge difference between crews who work a second round and sectional final. The crews getting regional, semi-state, and state final assignments are usually in the 48-50 range and have a little head start. This makes it easier for the "new" crews who have state final experience start that advancement faster. There are other factors which you'll get to later I'm sure, but I wanted to share my observations as well Many of the crews that don't get assignments or only get 1 round have multiple officials with less experience or fail to attend the required meetings or fail the test. The fact some crews have a head start isn't what is preventing them from advancing. There is a large group of officials stuck in the 2nd round and sectional final that have a hard time getting beyond those levels largely because their "competition" are those new crews that have multiple members with state final experience. It's not uncommon for 2 or 3 of the 3 "new" crews to have state final experience and not truly be new. Last year was a refreshing change. First, there were 4 new crews, and I believe 3 of them were truly officials working their first state final. 3+68/7

The IHSAA released a memo in April about this. Not sure why everybody keeps denying it.

In your opinion. Personally, I think Roncalli is a great story. A dominant team for a long time, they went to 4 straight championship games in the early 2000s. Then they went 25-27 over the next 5 yrs., and never got beyond a 2nd round sectional game. Then they slowly began to build back up, but they didn’t win a sectional again until 2014, and by 2016 they had a 15-0 state champion. Then they took a dip, going 18-15 the next 3 seasons before their championship last season. The point is, between the success factor and the up and down nature of high school classes, Roncalli’s success has been cyclical … just like that of every other program that is considered “dominant.” You don’t like Roncalli winning championships? Have a little patience. History tells us there will be a “down” cycle soon.

I’ve already spoken about the stacked deck. Many CG folks were up in arms prior to kickoff (all week really) and leading up to the game last night. Just because those on here are not crying foul doesn’t mean this board represents the masses. I GUARANTEE this board and other social media sites would be up in arms this morning had that score been flipped. Both teams have speed but CG has more. Also more talent and depth. Terrible field conditions neutralize that advantage. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. To your last point, this game has been circled on every football fan’s calendar since LAST October. Plenty of time to consider an alternate venue…and the rain forecast should have green lighted the decision to do so.
