  1. Dave Shelbourne was the head coach at Avon, and Rick Wimmer at Fishers. But here’s the kicker: the photo was taken by Tim Adams!

  2. Who is the genius who thought it would be a great idea to host a little league football tournament with elementary kids playing 3 or 4 games in a weekend. That has got to be one of dumbest things I have ever heard off. I know they don’t hit like the bigger kids, but the game still takes its toll on the body. Parents and coaches we have got to be better than this.

  4. Well, eff it. Sorry I brought it up. Irish by a billion this Friday. New Pal is 2-3 rungs down the talent totem pole from Decatur IMO.

  5. CG has been sending teams to these tournaments for 20 years without issue. I appreciate the sentiment of this thread but at least for our elementary kids it hasn't been a problem.

  6. So.....with all of the discussion about contact sports and concussions it is okay for a middle school child to play multiple games over a weekend but players at the higher levels are only allowed to play 1 game or 5 quarters a week? I agree with the original poster that this seems out of wack with what is best for the athlete. But I guess since you win an 8th grade tourney it makes it okay....

  7. This will be a pinned topic for journalists, members of the media, SIDs, photographers, historians, archivists, etc. to link up. This is not for streams or other the like to be advertised. The Gridiron Digest community is welcome to add constructive feedback -- discussions on paywalls, local sports journalism (or its evolving nature with SIDs and private photogs/bloggers), and so on. But it will not be a space to blast things like paywalls, reduced or biased coverage, etc. without providing alternate solutions. That being said... - @crimsonace1 - Journalist, teacher, and radioman extraordinaire - @Rudy AlmanacSports.com 'nuff said - @Miner_Pride A true asset to southcentral Indiana HS sports (what's your official online archive?) - @DaveMosbey Model example of how to incrementally archive a school's sports programs (don't let the HTML fool you!) - @Bcaster My perhaps biased favorite play-by-play voice of sports in talent-rich southwestern Indiana - Where is TW lurking? Every time I look he's getting a new promotion. Not sure how involved he is with the CircleCityConference.com, but it's the best conference website I've seen. This list is not exhaustive, so who is missing? It would be great to add to it through the winter and be able to network (understanding that most of you also cover winter and spring sports) -- don't worry @DK_Barons, this isn't a ploy to revive gridirondigest.info/wiki ... I might work on my predictor tool to attempt to rank programs since 2000 differently than CalPreps or the Texas forum...

  8. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/free-kyle-rittenhouse/ Don’t know if you saw it, but in his testimony, Gage Grosskreutz, who was shot by Rittenhouse but survived, admitted that Rittenhouse didn’t shoot him until he (Grosskreutz) first pointed his gun at Rittenhouse. We know that the two others Rittenhouse shot that night were Rosenbaum, the convicted criminal who chased him and tried to disarm him, and Huber, a protester who lunged at him on the ground, and hit him with a skateboard. Those seem to be clear-cut cases of self-defense, as with the Grosskreutz shooting. But the jury will have its say. It’s a shame that Rittenhouse is even on trial. True, he was 17, and shouldn’t have been out on the streets that night. But what a sad story: a fatherless boy who wanted so badly to be a good man, to serve his community, to protect good people from bad ones. And this is where he is today. As J.D. Vance explains, tech media refused to let people raise money for Rittenhouse’s defense. They have decided that Rittenhouse is the enemy. This class of people have decided that people like Rittenhouse are the enemy. I’m sick of it. Where, aside from J.D. Vance, are the Republican politicians who stand up for the Kyle Rittenhouses of the world? The tears of that boy on the witness stand ought to tear your heart out for what has happened to this country, and what the Machine does to someone like that. Agreed. This trial is a sham.

  12. They actually have their student section there as well. They are at a lower level and the tilt of the bleachers is at a lower angle so they can stand and then not block the view of those sitting in the "upper" section. Genius actually.

  16. It almost appears the Prosecution is now doing all he can for a mistrial. He certainly ticked off the judge. https://100percentfedup.com/judge-in-kyle-rittenhouse-case-clears-jury-shouts-at-woke-prosecutor-for-grave-constitutional-violation-video/ During Rittenhouse’s testimony this afternoon, Judge Bruce Schroeder lashed out at Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger. Rittenhouse attorney Mike Richards objected when ADA Binger questioned why the 18-year-old decided to remain silent after the Kenosha shooting incident that left two dead and one injured, hooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Before he lashed out at the inept ADA, Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder paused the trial and sent the jury out of the room. “I was astonished when you began your examination by commenting on the defendant’s post-arrest silence,” Schroeder shouted. “That’s basic law. It’s been basic law in this country for 40 or 50 years,” he said, adding, “I don’t know what you’re up to.” The judge admonished Binger, “You’re an experienced trial lawyer, and this should not have been gone into.” Watch the heated exchange here: MSN – Schroeder also chastised Binger for discussing a piece of evidence that Schroeder had previously banned from being brought up at trial. Binger was attempting to question Rittenhouse about a video recorded weeks before the Kenosha shootings, The video was apparently filmed from inside a car, across the street from a CVS Pharmacy, where several hooded people could be seen rushing out and clutching items. A voice that sounds like Rittenhouse’s could be heard saying, “Bro, I wish I had my f—ing AR. I’d start shooting rounds at them. Binger had previously argued that the video showed Rittenhouse “was ready and willing to use deadly force in a situation where it was completely unjustified,” but Schroeder ruled against him, barring it from being discussed at trial. On Wednesday, Richards called the situation “ridiculous,” saying the prosecutor was ignoring the judge’s previous rulings. When Binger said Rittenhouse’s testimony opened the door to the questions, Schroeder again raised his voice. “Don’t get brazen with me!” he shouted. “I don’t want to have another issue as long as this case continues, is that clear?”

  17. Thank you. I kinda figured. I seen youth tournaments come and go for over 15 years. We may disagree on the number of games, but if done right, it's no different then the kids playing other sports or playing multiple games in the neighborhood. But that is just my thoughts.

  19. Foodie, townie--you guys hit the jackpot!!! No, Lowell does not have a dearth of fine dining, but there are some good places: 1. McVey's--about a mile west of the Inferno on SR 2/Commercial Avenue. The only fine dining spot in our little burg. Pricey, but well worth it. 2. Mi Ranchito--two miles west of the Inferno on the main drag. Very authentic, the owners are from Mexico. Great food and better maragaritas. 3. George's--across the street from the high school. Will give Denny's (of which there's one at I-65 & SR 2) that is, well, Denny's... $. Bearski's--Awesome local sports bar with decent food and drinks. 5. Dicky's Dogs--a Portillo's wannabe, but not bad. 6. Aurelio's Pizza--real good sit down pizza place. 7. Pizza Hut--not any better, but cheaper 8. Loven Oven--Best pizza in town 9. Athens Grill--great take out Greek and American food. 10. No. ! Chinese--more like only one, but still pretty good take-out 11. Chicquito Mexico--not bad, but not as Charming as Mi Ranchito. 12. There's also a Shoop's Hamburgers in town, but they have odd hours. Normal fast food, too.

  21. Takeaways: Michigan ranked ahead of Michigan State. I think it's cut and dry. It took the Spartans a late comeback on their home field to derail their "big brother." Then turn around and lose to a three loss Purdue team. On a neutral playing field, which is what the playoff is played on, 90% of football fans would agree that Michigan would win the second time around. Michigan State ranked ahead of Notre Dame: ND's loss came to Cincinnati at home. MSU's loss came to Purdue on the road and was never in doubt. Edge to ND. Key wins for the Irish are Purdue and Wisconsin. Key wins by MSU...........Michigan. Edge: even. Advantage Notre Dame. How about the Boilers coming in at 19?

  22. I am sure they get it and aware of your hatred for the team they support. doubt they would lose their mind with a loss (at least most of the regulars I see on here).

  23. With MSU and Michigan still having Ohio State and Penn State on their schedules, they are not done losing games yet.......they will drop. The Big 10's hope once again lie with the Buckeyes...... Sorry guys...just read your responses....guess I felt like piling on.....flag thrown on me for the late hit....

  26. So are you saying NP will beat Cathedral 21-0? Not sure what you mean. BTW the Cathedral vs Brebeuf game was 38-7 prior to subbing, Brebeuf scored 14 points in the 4th qtr against 2nd and 3rd string defense. 😂 always helping the helpless. I could see someone predicting a win by a FG or something but a 3 TWow just wow! win. w

  28. Hey look guys - we got some recognition!! I get playing up the underdog/disrespect card. That can be a powerful motivator BUT- I still think they are barking up the wrong tree in this situation. MAYBE if this was a "normal" thing for GS and they've "been there/done that" type of scenario - but this GS is foaming at the bit for their turn at the blue ring. Sorry Tigers, bad timing. ps.....How in the world can they NOT find a bus?? I'm assuming he means a chartered one?? If not, I'm sure we have school buses they can borrow.

  29. I don't fault CG for scoring there. They mathematically couldn't have run out the clock and it was still only a one score game. Don't like it, stop them.

  33. Although still in the hunt, MSU will go bye bye in the upcoming weeks. I still maintain that they will have at least two losses by the end of the regular season. It could be four. Now that Purdue disposed of them, I'm going to roll with three losses. Out of the playoff picture. The chances of Michigan finishing with three losses is pretty strong as well. But I think Michigan has a better shot to be part of the conversation in upcoming weeks. Brutal schedule coming up for both programs.

  35. November 3rd, 2017 was Zionsville's last road game. Their game against Dwenger this Friday will make 13 straight games they play in the friendly confines of their home field. THIRTEEEN straight games! I thought I was hallucinating when I looked this up. Must be nice.

  36. Thank you... I tell ya something else. I go super extra effort to learn about who is playing on the other side of the field. My goal every week is to let Miner Fans know anything and everything so they can appreciate those athletes we play against. I swear I know the numbers and names without looking for most every 2 deep by the time game time hits!

  37. Pro Tip: Opponents should wear GS apparel before, during, and after the GS home games to deter profiling. Plus I hear it encourages the visiting team when they see mom and dad beaming down at them in Maroon, Gold, and White all game.

  38. You are forgetting that our red-neck south side second cousins are running through 4A. Someone needs to make sure the Rebels/Royals don't get any more state titles than they deserve. But, generally, I agree with you. As for success factor gerrymandering, we never know what the IHSAA will do with us. It's why we don't go out of our way to petition anything.

  43. Good points. My thoughts: I am surprised in Year 5 that he still is shuffling QB's. Looking at this year, I think he really wanted Plummer to be the guy with his athleticism and finally gave in to the realization that AOC can throw the ball around despite having the mobility of a stone statute. I think Brady Allen is a litmus test type of recruit. At some point Brohm needs to bring a good QB in and develop him into the program QB. Allen is 6'5. I beieve he has some athletic ability. A lot of well established programs wanted him. It's time for Brohm to put his mark on the QB position. I don't see any possible way he makes the jump to the NFL as a HC. Not succesfull enough at the college level and doesn't have the knowledge of an innovative offense (Cliff Kingsbury) that an NFL team wants to tap into. So, if his transition is as a QB Coach or maybe even an OC, I have really have no idea how those positions payout vs. a Big Ten HC job. This. I'm hopeful he truly has turned the corner and the program is up and running. And I'm hoping he has no interest in leaving West Lafayette. As I said before, he and his family supposedly love West Lafayette. Brohm has been on record before saying he likes the challenge of trying to win big at Purdue and it would be more special than at a powerhouse program that's accustomed to winning big.

  44. A little history about Northridge football to those unfamiliar. Northridge had never had much success in football, in 2013 Tom Wogomon took over as head coach and the culture changed quickly. Wogomon was head coach at Wawasee (where Chad Eppley played for him) before coming to Middlebury. In 2014 Northridge won their first sectional and regional titles before losing to New Prairie at semi state. After the 2020 season Wog retired and Northridge promoted then assistant coach Chad Eppley. Eppley turned 27 last Friday night and won Northridge's 2nd ever sectional title on that night. Since Wogomon and Eppley took over, the Raiders have a reputation of playing disciplined, hard hitting football. This year has been no different, and you can't really point to just one player that has been the difference, it has been a team effort. Eppleys first assistant job came after playing for the university of university of Indianapolis. He was an assistant on Westfield when they won a state championship.
