Why … it’s absolutely BRILLIANT, I tell you!

I would say that roughly 50% of NP kids are very similar to 90-95% of the MD kids. The biggest difference between these kids (the roughly 215 NP kids that have similar home life as the 450 MD kids) is expectations at home. MD families are paying for an education and athletic experience, they are more involved with their kids school and extracurriculars. These numbers seem to translate to roster size as well. NP has 40 kids playing football, MD has 80ish (way more last year.) Routinely? I got tired of looking but going back to the early 2000's NP has won 5 out of the last 27 or so games in boys basketball vs MD. So NP wins 16% of the time in the last 20 years, for reference against Evansville North (1600 students) same time period NP has won 5 out 17 games (about 30%.) I can't tell you about baseball those stats aren't as easy for me to find but we have had some really good baseball teams including back to back state titles so I imagine that is pretty close. As far as siblings at both schools, not always but usually the family will send the better athlete to MD and the rest to NP. Again its about expectations, freshmen receiver at MD is supposed to be the star while junior sister and 8th grade brother at NP are pushed in a different direction. To be clear I didn't say anything good or bad about MD, I presented the facts of this years 2A tournament. Good luck to the Wildcats

Why don't these same advantages show up in other sports? NP routinely beats MD in basketball and baseball. Or are there only "advantages" in football? I use NP as an example because they have similar enrollments and very similar kids. they have kids in their hallways right now that went to westside catholic feeder schools and are now at NP. In some cases there are siblings at each school. With all these advantages, wouldn't the parents opt for MD? I realize that MD has a different enrollment from some other 2A schools. But the teams they have beaten to win sectional, regional and semi state are not significantly different.

So by your argument, private school students work harder therefore achieving higher levels of success? No dog in the fight here, just pointing out your argument just ate its own tail.

I personally put very little weight on game 1 of the season for a team that lost the major pieces that Lawrenceburg lost from last year's team. It takes time for new starters to get experience and a team to gel together. I think Chatard was in the same position this year. To your point, it looks like Lawrenceburg has been firing on all cylinders lately. I'm not sure who will win this game, but I would be shocked if this was a blow out by either team. Safe travels to all Lawrenceburg fans coming to Indy!

I'm not in the condition I once was but I think I'll survive eating a donut, watching practice, then saying hello to the team. 😉

I might add Penn was a good football team this year. They crushed 4A and 5A teams playing in LOS this weekend. Played Cathedral very tough. Cathedral had 3 big plays that separated the two teams. Carroll came to our house and laid the smack down . I would never bet against them.

I don’t mind my money going to the IHSAA, but I have problem with my money going to ticket company’s at 30% mark up.

No predictions but, to an extent, it’s the game I’ve wanted to see for years. My EIAC football heritage/rival vs. the HS where my kids played football. Personally, I’d like nothing better than the game to be played in Lawrenceburg where I, frankly, took years of shellackings. The absolute coolest HS field in SE Indiana.

Lucas Oil only allows for E-tickets so I went online to buy them for State Finals. There is a $5.60 per ticket fee PLUS a $5.60 per order fee for a total of $16.80 in FEES ..wth? 🤑

And heres how were gonna do it ok so after every game were gonna have a post game press conference were gonna sell tickets to that too alcohol will be sold (things probably gonna be hosted at the local watering hole of whatever town your in) every friday night for 2 and a half hours, the refs will justify their actions in front of a crowd of extremely pleasant people getting absolutely slammed at the bar the refs make all the ticket price back (so the bigger the mob the more they get paid) this is a good idea and you know it and for the inevitable "WHY DONT YOU TRY BEING A ZEBRA" comment All I have to say is be careful what you wish for.

I might be crazy, but I think this year's team is legitimately better than last. The individual parts might not look as good, but the sum of the parts seems to be better. Nothing against last year's team - they lost to the eventual state champ by 2 points in the regional. Another note, and clearly this is a personal opinion that will not be popular in some circles, but they simply threw too much last year. They were over reliant on a QB who was gifted as an athlete, but didn't seem to be able to get over the hump with decision making despite being a 4-year starter. Imagine this year's running attack with Yoon's passing ability when you need a big play or the defense is stacking the box.

His opinion of Valpo, you know a DAC rival from about 10 miles east of Merrillville, was so blatantly wrong on so many occasions this season I'm not sure how he can possibly try to predict anything from a state level in 5A. At some point you just got a call a spade a spade and move on.

No it didn't. This is a common misdirection pulled by P&P apologists. A certain type of parent with certain types of kids enroll at the private (and they probably do have a good work ethic). Does NP have some of those same types of parents and kids....of course they do. The problem that will never go away is the much larger percentage of kids at the public who are not interested in a high level of academic or extracurricular success. Given, publics like NP and GS will have a smaller chunk of "dead weight" than most publics but even with that, GS will never ever approach the level of ERM and NP will never ever approach the level of MD with regard to quality success driven student athletes, NEVER. Not one year, not one time, NEVER. The institutions are catastrophically dissimilar in student population type. It's interesting how paying for a service drives expectations.

I haven’t disappeared and that other tag isn’t me. I been here. I’m actually in the hospital. Been really sick and had surgery If you look at it. It says they were suspended this year and are in probation. Problem is. The transfers we got for this year didn’t play they were only given JV eligible. So they will be here next year. We still have 3-5 more good years coming. Especially with the rest of 5A not looking strong

You honestly think that there are even close to the same number of quality success driven student athletes between MD and NP....you really wanna say that? You have to realize that when someone pays for a service it because they are looking for specific outcomes, and when someone only attends an institution because the law says they have they are typically a completely different kind of student.....this completely skews "enrollment" and why an "enrollment" only classification system can never work, particularly if you are allowing publics and privates in the same tournament. Enrollment only might work if you only had publics in the system or only had privates in the system because then the effective enrollments are like for like. The two ways of doing school are so distinctively different with regard to student population type, enrollment alone just won't work and doesn't and hasn't. Unless as a private parent you feel entitled that your enrollment fees should also purchase you an unfair advantage in the tournament.

I'd purpose that by Not seeding the top 4 contenders in different Regionals North and South... the IHSAA is the culprit for creating the so called bottle neck.

Gibson Southern should be thankful that the success factor did it's job and cleared out all those highly advantaged P/P schools from 3A last year.

Yes I believe he's the starting center as well on offense. His father was a senior on the 2000 State champion team as well.

He has the wins to prove it, I say yes. They have cycled through a class of players and when go back to his first full year, look at how Valpo has performed, a great run. Talked about this at the beginning of the year that Valpo had the best staff in the conference and it starts with him. They keep it simple on offense and defense, same basic four man front and guarantee they will go wildcat or qb power if the game is close or they have a lead. This staff is battle tested. For the first time since Disco Fever🪩 the DAC has a legit chance at championship (excluding Hobart-former member)

It was only 3 years in a row so doesn't equate to my example lol, also like I said above they were public schools so it was cool because it never happens anymore in the lower classes.

Western Boone 2018-2020 has entered the chat. (To clarify) I have no issues with this. But if it were Bishop Western or St. Boone, they would be talked about completely different.

If the policy at LOS for this weekend is the same as the large band competitions walk up sales still had to submit the Ticketmaster fees! Heck of a deal, show up in person and still get charged. I had to rethink the process this year and makes me wonder how much the rebate is that Ticketmaster gives back to the venue. And the best part was only the North gates were used for some of the events meaning a nice stroll past Payton after you had your e ticket. Be safe traveling to all. <><

Unfortunately, when in 3A, if you make it to state that means you have the privilege of getting beat by Chatard. But, as a buddy of mine at Heritage Hills says, "at least I can say the guy I lined up across from now plays for the Dallas Cowboys and I gave him all he wanted". With that said, they can be beat, but out of 9 times, we have only done it once. Some of those games, in our glory days, were heartbreakingly close.

Ticketmaster is a giant monopoly that grifts money from patrons, venues, and acts, produces nothing, adds little to no value, and are in general a PITA for everyone involved.

It's unfortunate that assumptions are made about people who reside in rural areas. Yes, I live in a rural setting. But I'm highly educated and know a fair bit about private education. I will not speak poorly of private schooling, but I do enjoy seeing public schools overcome their disadvantages to beat similar-sized private schools.

To be somewhat clear on this whole thread, I essentially ACCUSED the IHSAA of Gerrymandering in another thread to put all the P&Ps in the same sectional(s) whenever they possibly can. My point was if they didn’t intentionally do this then the Success Factored teams might actually stay “up”. Certainly the case with Chatard/Roncalli. Having Chatard go North in 4A and Roncalli stay South would arguably be the “non-Gerrymandered” (I am straining the King’s English to a breaking point here) result that would actually result in what most want (likely including Chatard) - Chatard to no longer be in 3A. My opinion has long been that the IHSAA had less of a problem in football with P&P’s overall than it had a specific problem with Chatard in 3A and Cathedral in any class excepting 6A. Certainly the same could also be said of LCC in 1A. Well…they solved their Cathedral “problem”…..at least for the time being….even artificially shortening the “bump-up” timetable to do so. They put LCC on a Sectional island…solving that problem. The Chatard 3A problem only required them to keep Chatard and Roncalli (and probably Chatard/New Pal these days) in separate sectionals. It’s a very easy fix and, frankly, just the opposite of Gerrymandering. But the IHSAA does so love artificially eliminating P&P’s in Sectionals whenever possible that they continually lose sight of the Success Factor “big picture”. So, I would argue that the remaining P&P problem is an actual result of the IHSAA’s historic Gerrymandering.
