  3. Jeff beat Westfield back in 2017 and Noblesville (4-3 in HCC that season) in 2018 in sectionals back-to-back years, yet I'm sure most are unaware. Like someone previously said, they are no slouch, they just rarely get the chance to prove themselves against quality competition due to the NCC being a pretty bad football conference overall. Jeff also beat undefeated Crown Point 2 seasons ago on the road in Sectionals, before falling at home in Regionals by 1 to Carroll (who then beat HSE). People will come up with all sorts of excuses or reasoning to justify their opinion instead of giving credit where credit is due. It may be a while until a Northern team gets to the level of beating a CG or BD or whoever the 6a big dog is, but with the volatility of high school football rosters year in and year out, it could happen sooner than a lot think. All it takes is a strong Junior & Senior class at a program that gets better every year to eventually get it done

  4. Speaking of FCS, the pecking order in that division is interesting. Here's their AP Top 5: South Dakota State North Dakota State Montana Montana State South Dakota Chattanooga at 8 and Furman at 9 are the only SEC footprint schools in the Top 10. Maybe that's why North Dakota State doesn't jump up to FBS. Their area of the country runs the FCS.

  7. Blackford at Fremont--Unfortunately, Blackford continues what may be the current longest losing streak in the State. Fremont wins. Concordia at Eastbrook--Shocked by Eastbrook getting beat by Huntington North. Can't remember the last time Eastbrook started the season 0-1. Concordia is good and a little bit bigger school that Eastbrook, but in the end Coach Adamson rights the ship and Eastbrook pulls out a close one at home. Lapel at Frankton--Frankton may be better this year but Lapel is just to much for the Eagles. Lapel wins this one. Madison Grant at Southern Wells--MG by a lot. Running clock the entire 2nd half. Mississinewa at Marion--Marion is coming off of an overtime win against Fort Wayne South. Mississinewa is coming off a dominating win over Norwell. Mississinewa has too many weapons for Marion to keep up with and Ole Miss defense is very strong and look to pitch another shutout. Mississinewa wins this one by 30. Oak Hill at Southwood--Southwood has a new coach while Oak Hill has a tenured coach. Oak Hill wins this one by a bunch with the 2nd half having a running clock. Tipton at Elwood--Elwood finally won the first game of the season. Not sure when this happened last but could have been when their current coach Sammy Mireles was a player. Tipton and Elwood games used to be a toss up and with Sammy as the coach, I think this game is the toss up game this week. I'm going with the Elwood Panthers for the win but not by much. Wabash at Alexandria--Alexandria wins this one by a bunch. Another running clock in the 2nd half this week. Overall it is nice to see Mississinewa, Eastbrook, Oak Hill, Alexandria, and Madison-Grant all being ranked inside the top 20 in their respective classes. Could this be the year that there are 3 CIC teams playing Thanksgiving Weekend?

  8. I was at Montana’s campus years ago. Cool location in Missoula. Walked up the side of the mountain overlooking the campus and stadium with the big M. Love the Griz mascot!

  9. I should have stated "many", "most", or "by and large." By stating "everyone", that implied you as well. It does have it's flaws, but I think it gives a as good of a read on our sport as anything. It's just not the 'be all end all' like some think it is. I actually think this is a ridiculous conversation. To imply that that Avon is terrible is to imply that over 290 of Indiana's 316 are also "terrible." Indianapolis has dominated football for so long, and for the most part, still do. I hate that Indy posters get so defensive when a team from Indy does lose. Give Jeff some credit for crying out loud.

  10. Knowing the Memorial faithful as I do, trying to prevent them from tailgating would backfire. They’d respond by showing up in bigger numbers with more grills, more beer, and bigger speakers. Besides, what’s the motivation to stop it? It isn’t hurting anybody. Is it a liability thing? Because I can’t imagine the schools would have any. Is it the belief that it sends a bad message to kids? Because lots of kids go to college games, too. Tailgating and football were made for each other. Stop trying to prevent other people from having a good time…as long as it stays civil and people don’t get out of hand and clean up after themselves.

  11. The Terry boys are the main reason I am asking. It isn't every year you get physical specimens like them. Having seen them in track and wrestling I assumed they were beasts on the gridiron.

  19. We don't need to use non-conference games as measuring sticks. The NLC is a tough enough test for us. But learning to win is what we have lacked the last couple of seasons so getting into a winning mindset is what will help us achieve in NLC and state tournament play.

  22. My sources tell me it was less VL complaining than the desire of the EVSC to eliminate fans tailgating. Otherwise, why not just adjust the start times for the VL and Jasper games? I know several schools were firmly against moving all games to 6:30.

  23. I think it would be a big challenge to get boosters to work gates, concessions, etc. in late November if their school wasn't participating. Those universities also have games in November. Concession revenue for Purdue or IU from a couple thousand people is not going to move the needle enough to make the venture worthwhile. The IHSAA adding the additional costs to the ticket price would drive down attendance even more than having two schools drive to a neutral site. The reason Lucas Oil works is because the Colts cover the costs of the facility.

  26. GID voters appear to be split between North Judson and South Putnam. Will be fun to watch this unfold in the next few weeks. We'll have more insight on South Putnam after they host Lutheran this weekend. If this game is as close, either way, as the sectional game last year, then the Eagles will have a pretty strong claim as the favorites.

  28. Crazy to do that just for athletic purposes. Go from a school that you have played at with your friends for a handful of years, great community support, has a legit shot of winning a conference championship and making some post-season noise in a winnable sectional and beyond. But you go to a school with just promises and will have a very difficult time winning a conference championship (with Penn in the way) and then go to a 4 team sectional with Carroll and Snider

  31. Or possibly add Warsaw and Merrillville and go to East/West divisions to alleviate travel. I don't know, just spitballing, but the 6A teams in Sect 1 and 2 biggest problem year in and year out is strength of schedule. Too many of those teams are buoyed playing in conferences with 3A/4A schools or downright bad 5A/6A schools.

  32. It’s hard for me to get a read on Terre Haute South because I don’t know how good Plainfield is. That was a close loss to Plainfield and the Quakers ended up getting ranked in one of the polls as a result. However, I’m not sure they get over .500 this year so was that really a good loss for the Braves? Meanwhile, you have Floyd Central who lost in typical blowout fashion to one of the top 5 teams in Kentucky in Louisville St. Xavier. Whether it’s St. X, Male, or Manual, it’s become a tradition for the Highlanders to take a whooping every year from a Louisville powerhouse or two. A 56-14 loss to St. X this year and a 52-13 loss to them last year despite FC going 8-2. Toughest game of the week to pick for both the CI and HHC threads. Could come down to the final seconds again like it did last year on a neutral field at BNL.

  34. Yes, Absolutely we can say that Avon is terrible. Noblesville and their run heavy T-Formation offense by Coach Sharpe tends to hold the ball and consume a lot of clock. It is a unique offense that presents it's own challenge. Regardless Brownsburg has curb stomped their rival Avon the last couple of years 53-30 and 60-21. Noblesville losing to Brownsburg by 5 and Avon by 7 doesn't change how bad Avon has been especially with Noblesville and Coach Sharpe's T-Formation. It will not surprise me to see Avon lose their next 3 games by larger margins than to Laff Jeff (Ben Davis, HSE, and Brownsburg).

  40. Westfield and Center Grove played to an absolute classic in the 2021 title game in one of the better 6A title games in history. I would expect HSE, Westfield, insert 6A Hamilton County to be more competitive in a title game against BD, Warren, CG, etc at least in theory, because all those Hamilton County schools play top end competition night in and night out. Not saying it would always play out that way and it certainly hasn’t based on some previous results but just an opinion I have.

  44. Believe me when I say, I am far from a fan of the Penn Kingsmen - but how can they beat an IFCA Coaches' poll previously ranked 5A #3 Valparaiso team - and then not get at least 1 single vote in 6A this week? Meanwhile, Valparaiso only falls a spot to #4 in 5A. I get that polls are meaningless, but wild to me that coaches would still rank Valpo so high, but not give any love whatsoever to Penn.
