  2. again, the guy who champions personal freedoms and responsibility ........ Seems quite the contrary for your belief system you have consistently trumpeted around these parts. From my seat, looks like a local decision made, which is something you USED to support.. OR..... you are just taking the contrarian side for your entertainment. I will go with that one.

  3. Here they are, the 2020 PCS (Postseason Championship Series) Rankings! We take the human polls and the computer rankings, apply the old BCS college football formula and rank every tournament team in the state. Attached are the rankings. I'll try to post what the seeded match-ups could have been using the PCS. Thanks and enjoy! Dan "Rudy" Engler 2020 PCS Rankings by Sectional - FINAL.pdf 2020 PCS Rankings - FINAL.pdf

  9. I agree with everything you say, except the implicit conclusion that requiring kids to line up, walk through a line mumbling “good game” over and over, and fist bumping the other team is an effective way to go about it. Because it’s mandatory, it’s meaningless. If you’ve done those things you say are important, when the kids see you walking out to shake the opposing coaches hands after a hard fought game, they’ll know it’s the right thing to do, and they’ll do it freely, of their own accord. And that is so much more meaningful. Also, that is what team captains are for. Leadership comes from being out front, not pushing from the rear. But, of course, if you were the one to try and break the tradition, you’d be branded as “unsportsmanlike,” and probably worse.

  16. I saw 3A and 6A threads, why not an 4a thread North Sectionals Sectional 17- Hobart is definitely the favorite in this one, expect them to head to regionals Sectional 18- I honestly do not know too much about these teams, but I would favor Kankakee Valley Sectional 19- I would choose Leo in this one, with East Noble being 2nd and contend Sectional 20- Delta is the clear favorite in this South Sectionals Sectional 21- Easily Mount Vernon Sectional 22- Easily Roncalli Sectional 23- I'll give Mooresville as the favorite, though East Central/Silver are definitely contenders since one of those teams will meet Mooresville in the Semi Final Sectional 24- Central should be the clear favorite in this one, however, Jasper could potentially pull off the upset in the 1st round. While Memorial and Northview will loom back until they fight it out tonight. Regionals: North Regionals Hobart over Kankakee Valley- Hobart is a very good team and should not have a problem Delta over Leo- 2 pretty good teams, but I think Delta will edge Leo South Regionals Roncalli over Mt. Vernon- I honestly can see this one can go either way, but Roncalli does player tougher opponents Mooresville over Central- Central is having a great season as they are undefeated, however, Mooresville has better athletes and is coached extremely well. Though Central will give them a hard time Semi States: Hobart over Delta- Another tough one to pick, depending where they play Hobart should be able to contain Delta Roncalli over Mooresville- Another tough one, but from the looks of it, it will be a close in the south State Roncalli over Hobart- Should be a good hypothetically match up, but I think Roncalli will win by around 6-12 points *This is what I think may happen and I know very well some teams could make huge surprises in the tournament.* Discuss below:

  18. Since there are other similar posts about different classes, I decided to make one about the class that I feel is the most interesting this year: 2A. This class and 4A feel like the most wide-open classes in the tournament, which is nice in year where 3 classes have overwhelming favorites. On the eve of the first round of sectionals, I’d like to see people’s opinions/projections of how 2A will play out. The North is absolutely stacked this year with Andrean, Pioneer, and Eastbrook all having legitimate shots at making trips down to LOS. Leurs and Eastside are also teams to watch out for. In my opinion the South is somewhat wide open, with Triton Central as a presumed favorite but I think many other teams are capable of making a run to LOS. I’ll go ahead and give my (totally unbiased Andrean alumni) predictions: S33: Andrean should play Rensselaer Central in the title game. I think it’ll be a good game to start but Andrean should pull away. S34: Pioneer will likely play Bremen for the championship. Again, I think this one will be close early, but Pioneer should pull away. S35: I think Eastside and Leurs will meet up in a rematch of a sectional game from last year. I think Leurs wins this time in a close one. S36: Eastbrook will be challenged by Tipton in round 2 and Eastern in the title game, but I think they have to be considered the solid favorites here. S37: I like WeBo to beat South Vermillion in the title game. S38: I think Heritage Christian will play Scecina in the title game after Scecina beats Shenandoah in a rematch. I’ll take Heritage to beat out Scecina in a good one in the title game. S39: Triton Central should win this relatively easily, I don’t see a team in this sectional challenging them. S40: I like Mater Dei to beat Linton-Stockton in the title game. Regionals: Andrean over Pioneer by a TD Eastbrook over Leurs by 2 TDs WeBo over Heritage Christian by a TD Triton Central over Mater Dei by a TD Semi States: Andrean over Eastbrook by a TD Triton Central over WeBo by 2 TDs State: Andrean over Triton Central by 2 TDs Happy Tournament everybody!

  22. Attica 30 North Vermillion 28 FINAL Ramblers finish the game with just 12 players healthy and available. That's how the numbers make a difference. If you have a roster of 30, and you lose 3 kids to contact tracing, you can still play. When you start with 14...1 kid can be the difference between playing and not playing every week. How about some respect for the kids doing their best in all of this? I saw it when Turkey Run had 13 kids....and no COVID to deal with. Great win by the Ramblers. Let the flaming begin....but they are moving on, and that's all you want each week.

  31. Exciting year for region football, as 4 teams (Merrillville, Valpo, Hobart, and Andrean) have chances for deep playoff runs. You also have teams like KV and Hanover Central with legitimate chances to win sectionals, which would be KV’s first since 1985 and Hanover’s first ever. I’ll go ahead and make the bold prediction that at least 2 of the 4 teams I mentioned as playoff contenders will represent the North at LOS (knock on wood!) Can’t wait to see how the tournament plays out!

  36. From the Delta game earlier this saeson, EB QB had a really nice pass in 3rd qtr that led to TD after their running game was having trouble. Only tried 1 pass after that and I kept wondering why they stuck to the running game when they needed to catch up. Maybe Coach wasn't worried about the win and wanted to test running plays against a better defense knowing the rest of the CIC wouldn't test them ?

  37. Miners Face Tough Test at 6-2 Tell City To Kick-Off Post-Season The 8 teams in 2A Sectional 40 range from winless 0-5 Crawford County and 2-7 South Spencer to the regular favorites 5-4 Evansville Mater Dei and 6-3 Linton. This year you have to add 6-2 Tell City to that list of favorites, and certainly 5-2 North Knox. 5-3 North Posey and 6-3 Forest Park round out a group that has 6 of its 8 teams with winning seasons. Most folks around these parts of southwestern Indiana have put the Marksmen and of course the Wildcats at the top of the list of favorites, and the draw set up that very scenario. That is, unless, The Miners, Warriors, or even the Vikings or Rangers have a chance to change those thoughts. North Knox travels to Ferdinand to face a team on the rise in the Forest Park Rangers. Their 6-5 2019 season was their first +.500 season since an 8-3 2010. The Rangers first full season was actually 2008, so that was a relative quick rise to success, but playing in the tough PAC year in and out took its toll on the Rangers playing the likes of Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, Southridge, as well as Perry Central. At 6-3 the Rangers are coming in off a 38-0 shellacking from unbeaten 3A Southridge. That ended a 3 game winning streak over 3A Pike Central (49-6), 1A Springs Valley (41-26) and 2A South Spencer (42-7). However those teams have a cumulative 3-21 W-L record. Against winning programs the Rangers still have much to prove. In addition to the Southridge loss, they fell 25-0 to Tell City (6-2), and 29-20 to Mt. Vernon (5-2). Their big win this year was in week 2’s 41-12 win over 1A 6-3 Perry Central. North Knox is coming off their best year of Warrior Football (8-4) since 2014, and reached the sectional championship game last year falling to Mater Dei 35-6. The Warriors have been warriors this year battling the Covid issue losing games last minute and adding games the next minute, still ended up playing only 7 of the 9 scheduled games. They’ve won 3 in a row, including last week’s 42-0 romp over 4-3 4A Indianapolis Crispus Attucks, 49-17 over 4-4 1A North Daviess, and the gem of their year a 27-14 win over Linton. Their first win over Linton since 2009. They lone losses came in week 1 to 3A 6-3 Sullivan 48-19, and in a late added game against 2A 5-4 Rensselaer Central 35-19. The Warriors and Rangers have met up twice in the last three years I post-season. NK won last year 25-0 at Warrior Field, with the Rangers winning in 2017 27-14 at the same place Many folks casually scanning scores last Saturday morning we no doubt stunned by the 35-26 result of South Spencer knocking off previous 6-1 Tell City. I admit, hearing that score on the Sports Talk network on the car radio coming home from Clarksville stunned me. Briefly. But I knew there had to be more to that story and there was. Tell City was without 5 starters, and 3 of those were 2-way starters, and this happened last minute, so the Marksmen were hampered severely. This was evident on 3 pass plays accounting for scores…essentially blown coverages that one would assume would not have occurred with their normal senior starters in the game. Meanwhile the Miners have won 2 in a row, a 56-0 slashing of Eastern Greene (1A 1-8) , and last week’s long road trip to defeat Providence 27-7 (2A 3-5). At 6-3 their big win of 2020 was a 22-16 overtime thriller of 3A 5-3 Sullivan. The 3 losses have come to unbeaten 3A Southridge (28-0), to 4-3 4A Boonville 44-42 in Overtime, and 27-14 to 5-2 2A North Knox. The Marksmen, under first year coach Mac Webb, are 6-2. The 6 wins are the most for the program in a single year since a 6-4 2013, and before that a 6-4 2006 season. You have to go back to 2000 to see a high win total- 8-4 in 2000. Linton has had only 1 losing season (5-6 2018) in the last 20 years. Brian Oliver has been at the helm 8 years with a 79-20 mark over-all. Both schools lost to Southridge, but Tell City’s was down to the wire (14-12) while Linton was blanked in week 1 (28-0). Course week one was a long time ago. Both teams should be at full strength tonight, as it should be. Linton and Tell City despite being in southern Indiana, have only met one time to my knowledge. In Linton’s 2015 run to a runner up 1A trophy Linton ran over the Marksmen 76-8 in the opening sectional round at Linton. South Spencer truly has nothing to lose in playing Evansville Mater Dei tonight. I am pretty sure that nobody will have the Rebels in this game. When you consider the 5-4 Wildcats, under 25th year coach Mike Goebel, you have to look into their schedule. It’s said year in and year out- they are a 2A school playing a 3A-4A schedule. The SIAC is brutal for anyone, but Mater Dei is always in the hunt for top honors in Evansville. They are coming off a 40-20 handling of 4A 3-6 Evansville Reitz, and have won their last 4- including 49-15 over 4A Harrison (1-8), 56-6 over Bosse (0-8), and a huge 29-14 win over 5A North (5-4). Their 4 losses were to powerhouse programs in Southwestern Indiana. But even the losses were impressive in that twice they lost by only 3 points (6-3 to 5A Castle (5-3), 13-10 to 4A Memorial 6-3). The othes were Unbeaten 4A Central (21-0) and 28-14 to 4A Jasper (7-2). The Rebels under Jeff Daming in his first year at South Spencer were in the midst of a 4 game losing skid when they upset the 6 and now 2 Tell City Marksman last week in Reo. Despite the game facts given in the above paragraph, a win is still a win. The Rebels put up 35 points on a team who had given up on 34 all season long. It has to give the players at S.Spencer some confidence going into Evansville Friday. The other “W” came in week three with a 48-0 win over winless 3A Pike Central. They put up 28 in a 42-28 loss to 2-7 3A Princeton, but have had trouble putting points on the board against every one else (less that 7 points in each of 6 games). These teams have met in 2016 (56-20 Mater Dei; 2015 63-22 Mater Dei; 2012 42-0 Mater Dei; 2009 12-0 Mater Dei and 2007 35-13 Mater Dei and 4 more losses back to 1994). So yeah, it’s a big mountain to climb for the Rebels to shock the state, but never say never. The Vikings of North Posey are on a roll. They were 2-3 after back to back to back losses to Southridge (55-21) Tell City (35-17) and a tough double over time loss to Heritage Hills (35-34). But they are currently on a 3 game winning streak with wins over Tecumseh 27-15, South Spencer 27-7 and last week Pike Central 58-15. Now, we know the level of competition has been considerably different in those subsets. Those first three schools WL was 18-7, compared to the last three at 4-18 . Yet winning breeds a winning attitude too. The Vikings under 4th year coach Waylon Schenk started off with 2 wins--- 30-6 over South Spencer (yes, they played twice), and a 22-7 win over Princeton. The draw was very kind to them with the Wolfpack of Crawford Country being their first round opponent. Not offense meant for those kids trying to field a team in tough conditions in Marengo with low numbers as it is. But they have yet to have a winning season in their existence (starting in 2007). They’ve only tallied more that 2 wins in a season once (4 in 2008). They’ve played 5 games in 2020, losing each of them substantially, giving up 55 points a game. The lost last week to 1A Tecumseh 51-14, and have played some good teams in 6-3 3A North Harrison, 6-3 2A Paoli, and 6-3 1A Perry Central. I don’t see that these teams have met prior to this game. Coach Tony Bell is at the helm for Crawford County, and regardless of the outcome they should be applauded for keeping the program alive and those kids who go out an play full tilt every week. So there you have it. I think the NK-FP game along with the Linton TC game are the ones of interest tonight. The winner between the Warriors and Rangers will probably saddle up against Mater Dei. The Miners and Marksmen likely to face North Posey. My personal feeling is North Knox will be too much for the Rangers… but I haven’t seen Forest Park play. I am just looking at number crunching. The Linton Tell City matchup is enticing. I can’t help..even as a Miner guy… feeling uneasy that the Marksmen are such a power running team, and that even though that is the pride of Miner Football---shutting down rushing attacks… we got embarrassed with North Knox running all over the field. I have to feel the Linton kids are going to respond to that with a re-focus… and perhaps a bit of a wake-up call. The defense certainly played their best collective game last week against a solid Providence team. For the Marksmen… this is a big game for their program. They’ve been one and done in 9 of the last 10 sectionals. Only in 2000 have they reached the sectional championship (losing to of course mater Dei). Linton since moving up to 2A has at least won their first round, and have always been considered at least a dark horse if not a co-favorite most years. But yet, they’ve not been able to make noise in Sectional 48 with the win necessary. So it’s as big a game for the Miners as the Marksmen. I hope the weather doesn’t factor in things… but we’ve been awfully luck with weather this year! Good Luck to All Teams

  38. The winless Clovers get to move on. How fortunate for them!

  39. So, you do not force your children to say "please and thank you"? You force them until they start doing it for themselves. Kids only know what they're taught, and obviously some of them aren't being taught at home, so it is our job as coaches to teach and instill such character traits. I realize there is a difference between little kids and high school students, however, they are still impressionable young people and need guidance and modeling how to do things the right way, sometimes we're the only positive lessons they get all day.

  40. Yeah, I don’t like the public announcement of canceling and then being back in. First announcement probably should’ve been “canceled, pending Covid test results.” But I’m also going to guess that a whole bunch of parents got involved and were not going to allow their kids’ season to be over. My guess is this won’t be the only time this happens in the next 6 weeks!

  41. The local county health department can handle this situation as they see fit.

  42. Yes, that is what I meant. Thank you for catching that. Sounds like the rules vary from school corporation to school corporation, and according to the current W-L record of the football team.

  43. Let me preface my statement by saying I have no dog in this fight and have ZERO opinion one way or the other if Southwood plays. But, if what I've read in this thread is true, how is this possible and someone please enlighten me? According to every CDC, State and Local Board of Health guideline I've read, a close contact results in a 14 day quarantine, period. A negative test during that 14 day period is irrelevant because close contact individuals are still in a contagious/incubation state. So are the Southwood kids contacts of contacts? That's the only thing that would make sense here. If Southwood plays, good for them. But I feel sorry for all the other teams/individuals who had to forfeit their seasons due to the 14 day rule. If you really want to get people angry, changing rules midstream is a surefire way to do it.

  44. I hope this works out for them, but I believe that the Wabash girls Volleyball team tried the same thing and it was a no go.

  45. Not so fast! Southwood is now testing their varsity players and will be able to play Friday if all tests come back negative.
