I'm not so sure. I've heard the IHSAA is not going to give out Sectional trophies this year, but instead "Top 48 Sagarin" trophies at the end of week 10. I could be mistaken though. 😄5 points

Thought you might enjoy this. https://babylonbee.com/news/new-study-proves-refs-are-totally-biased-against-your-team# New Study Proves Referees Are Totally Biased Against Your Team CAMBRIDGE, MA—Sports researchers at Harvard have proven that the officials are totally biased against your favorite teams. Their report, entitled the Referee Equity and Fairness (REF) study, will be published next month in Sports Illustrated. Dr. James Fairplay, the lead researcher on the study for more than two decades, said the results were hardly surprising. “We always suspected the refs were against you, but now we have empirical evidence to back up our hypothesis,” he noted. “The REF study proves that the referees, umpires, judges, and other officials at all levels of sport are most definitely always biased against your favorite teams.” The study, which was the first of its kind, looked at thousands of sporting events since the year 2000. Researchers interviewed hundreds of players, coaches, and fans of all teams involved and asked them to rate the fairness of the officials on anonymous surveys. “We found strong evidence of referee bias against your teams in every single survey,” Fairplay noted. “This was true at every level, from pee-wee to the pros, and even at the Olympics. Whichever teams you were rooting for, the refs were definitely against them. Honestly, we’re not sure why nobody picked up on this before.” Fairplay also said referee bias is almost certainly the reason why your team didn’t make the playoffs last year, and why your fantasy team is doing so poorly. Now that the REF study is concluded, Fairplay said researchers will turn their attention to figuring out whether the broadcasters calling the game on TV are actively rooting against your favorite teams as well.4 points

Longtime listener, 3rd time caller....I mean poster here! From what I can gather by reading this thread: 1. Gibson Southern has some transfers from surrounding schools. 2. Surrounding schools dont like that. 3. GS supporters are pointing out other schools have done the same thing 4. Reb Nation doesnt like Gibson Southern 5. GS is really good and everyone hates a winner. Did I get that correct?3 points

All I know is that in the PAC must be beastly this year per Sagarin. Three teams in the Top 15 (and another South team, Linton 19th, btw) The SAC and SIAC crazy numbers are to be expected because of the closed conferences. Not sure though, about some of this other stuff. Guess I don’t want to hear anyone South complain about being disrespected - at least for the moment.2 points

A great game with great officiating as well. Leo did a great job getting EN to chase points with the 2 pt conversations. Definitely a game of two halves, this has the makings for a great matchup in sectionals (probably week 1 if we're being honest here.) But I am not discounting Northridge having a chance to upset either of these teams.2 points

reading what i just commented back….I think I understand how Memorial and Chatard fans feel now. Lol have no control as fans but sure hear 100% of the barking from other fans2 points

Spicer’s 61 yarder had 50-60 mph wind behind him—the ball looked like flubber going through the air. He had tried a 63 yarder earlier which had enough distance, but was wide.2 points

That’s correct. This is illegal participation, not illegal touching, since any player who is eligible at the snap remains eligible throughout the down. The foul occurred during a loose ball play, so the 15 yd. penalty is enforced from the previous spot. The offense then gets to run an untimed down after enforcement.2 points
-
If he stepped out on his own, he technically commits illegal participation. That's 15 yards. Play has to be accepted to negate the touchdown, therefore the offense gets to run another play since we can not end on an accepted penalty. If they decline and the game is within 8 points before said touchdown, they have an opportunity to run the PAT. If it has no change on the outcome, such as a team taking the lead as time expires or trails by more than two after the touchdown, the PAT is not attempted.2 points

Takes place in Monroe on Friday. Both teams come in with OOC losses. AC fell to Eastside by 2 in week 2 while SA was beaten by Monroe Central last week. The Jets have looked pretty good since the loss, but 2 of the last 3 wins came from playing rebuilding teams. South Adams has suffered key injuries during the season. I believe AC should win this game, but it's a rivalry. Each team knows the others strengths and weaknesses. I'm excited for a great atmosphere to watch in person. Like many I have family from both sides, but I'm a Jet and that is where my allegiance is this week.1 point

Between 1982 and 2005, no more than one Indiana team had representation in the USA Today Final 25. During that time, Ben Davis (multiple), Carmel, Hobart, Penn, Snider, and Warren Central (multiple) all had Top 20 finishes. I don't have a source for 2005 - present. I don't ever remember a time where two Indiana teams were so highly regarded.1 point

It wasn't that long ago that Center Grove had a very small Visitors bleachers (only a few years from renovation that increased Visitor seating). Prior to the renovation CG was a 6A school with visitor seating comparable to that of some 3A schools. It always has been a beautiful facility was lacking Visitor bleachers until renovation. Only point is the game shall go on, what matters is the 2 teams playing and the playing surface (field) albeit Natural grass will be more than adequate.1 point

Caston over North white Pioneer over Triton Winamac over Culver... if they decide they have the right guys to compete this week... Laville over Knox CMA over Judson- Kudos to Judson for reaching out and scheduling an opponent to play last Friday. Heard they were reaching out to schools in Illinois so they could play.1 point

Anybody doubling down on 8 wins? 9? 10? This team is who most rational people knew they were. A beneficiary of a Covid year with zero crowds, player opt outs and fool’s gold. Allen is good coach, talent developer and a solid motivator, but that’s where it ends. Be happy with bowl eligibility annually.1 point
-
In that event you look at the number of losses and head to head. I can't imagine Snider being penalized because their opponent canceled due to Covid. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again more than likely. Luers could just make it easy by winning out.1 point

Back in the day Seymour’s rivalries were JC and Columbus (North). Obviously Seymour didn’t play Brownstown for many years. East traditionally was never much of a rivalry, as they were non-conference. I can remember some of this battles, it was heated.1 point

No it will have an effect on SAC and SIAC teams each and every week. This is due to the fact that the formula used by Sagarin has no way to reference/compare those teams performances against any other teams in the state. Again, this has been discussed many times over the years and there are probably some better answers/responses that explain it better. No need to get your feathers all ruffled. "Idiotic criteria"... it's just one man's formula rankings that has a flaw in it if a group of teams only play amongst each other. Everyone knows Luers is a hell of a team this year. Where they rank among Sagarin's poll means nothing.1 point

Good morning my friend. It has been this way for years with Bosse and the SIAC. It's funny that you mention Castle, because it reminded me of when they were able to snatch Big Play Ray from the Bulldogs years ago. Now enjoy this juicy fart sandwich and good luck to the Titans this year.1 point

Great points...I left out the special teams. That 99yd kickoff return was also a killer. That was an omission to my list. Sometimes it seems IU goes to a lot of effort to lose a ball game.......1 point
-
Agree with everything. What's disappointing is that IU's defense has played well enough where they could very easily be 3-0 and in the top 10 in the country. I'm over the Penix experience and while I really want to put the blame on him I can't. This 1-2 start falls on Tom Allen. Offensive coordinator is incompetent. Special Teams coordinator is incompetent. Teams is mentally fragile (turnovers/penalties/mental lapses) and that is all an extension of coaching. Respect the hell out of Allen for getting to the point of national recognition, but he's lost on the sidelines. He's seemingly outcoached in just about every big ball game.1 point

I was there Saturday...great atmosphere...first sell out against a non-conference team since 1987. It was a shame to not to capitalize on the crowd excitement. Keys I noticed: Micah McFadden going out on a questionable targeting call was a killer. No points for Cincy to that point...after that, no issues with scoring. Can one guy make that much difference on D? Not sure, but I do know Cincy smartly began running the ball up the middle and off tackle with success. They weren't prior. Very predictable offense....all game long run up the gut on 1st down. Cincy smartly would stack the box. The IU and Penix were put in 2nd and 3rd and long situations. Not Penix's strength. IU offensive scheme is trying to turn Penix into a pocket passer. Perhaps that is due to injury concerns. But let's be honest...he's not a drop back passer. He's a really good RPO guy. He seems lost in his reads. IU offensive does not make it easy for him...a lot of long passes. Have they forgotten a play called a screen? IU receivers, especially Fryfogle dropping very catchable passes. Some of them Saturday were back breakers. Fryfogle ran his mouth pre-season saying he's one of the best receivers in college ball. Shut up and let your play speak for itself...because right now it is. Thank goodness for the Matthews transfer from Florida State. 4 trips into the red zone...no points. Up 14-0 and stopped on 4th and 1....ran a predictable off tackle play. Take the chip shot and points...go up 3 scores 17-0. Fumble on the 3 yd line in the 4th quarter was inexcusable. I hear Penix is injured....its probably time for Tuttle...maybe even get Donovan some snaps...WKU game is the perfect time. This was a very winnable game....very winnable. And I agree...it gets way more difficult in the Big 10 East.1 point

No one is as bad as UConn, not even Illinois. I see Purdue being favored vs Illinois, possibly Nebraska, and northwestern. Hopefully David bell does not miss any games.1 point

I had them in Week 3 that season, and he was playing then. The reason I remember is that his Dad and uncle were old baseball teammates of mine.1 point

This is actually encroachment on the kicking team, dead ball foul. The play should have been blown dead immediately, so B doesn't have the option to decline the penalty and keep the ball.1 point

the problem with this is that it implies GS did something….and as GS fans we have no control over who transfers in…so people are complaining to us like we are the ones with children and we decided to move so they could attend GS. ihsaa approved the transfers so they must be legitimate considering the number of basketball transfers recently who had to sit out a year in the area…or the kid who had to sit out all of last year for GS because North Posey wasn’t happy that a kid living in Owensville didn’t want to attend North Posey over Gibson Southern….that’s right….a kid who had been living in Owensville and attended a middle school for GS was forced to miss a year because they decided to attend North Posey, which was out of district, their first 2 years of HS the point is….we are just fans…the ihsaa and schools had to approve these transfers and they did despite denying one recently. Why are people trying to imply GS did something wrong1 point
-
I agree with you here though. All of sports has changed with the way kids nowadays train. Outside of season specialized training is huge now compared to 20 years ago. These 15/16yr old QB’s that are starting are probably better, more polished, and more physically mature than the upperclassmen back then.1 point

Of course - a lethal combination for sure . But again, the naysayers and observers will say they have 0 sectionals between them (thus far) and brought in some "extra help" in order to get over the hump. Again, not saying that is my personal opinion - GS was going to be good this year regardless - just pointing out the narrative that is going to travel with this team.1 point

His comment of crappy grass field is the laughable thing. Not every team is capable of affording and playing on the luxurious turf fields of today. Not every grass field is crappy either. As far as a game of this magnitude, whats to say either team has anyone important even playing in this game. Bragging rights? I dont think CG even cares. If all play, this will be the closest game they will have played, but with the grind that CG will have gone through, they might just sit players to have 2 weeks of rest before the season that actually counts in Indiana starts. Cathedral might do the same with sitting players. Who knows. But to complain about ACTUALLY having to play on a Grass field. Get over yourself.1 point
-
Just be glad Roncalli has ducked Cathedral for the last decade and get over it. The playing surface at Arlington is fine. It is a smaller venue but what other choice does Cathedral have? It's where they play their home games.1 point
