Cathedral 14, Douglas 10 at the half. Cathedral got out to a 14-0 lead and then Douglas scored on a long pass on 4th and 11 on the Irish 31 yard line. Then the Irish just lost momentum or something. They are a strange team this season!

I have a hard time predicting the easy win some seem to think this is going to be for Chatard. I recall hearing similar predictions for the game with Roncalli….from Roncalli folks in some cases. It obviously didn’t turn out that way. I do think @Just a dad has summarized the team fairly well, though. I also agree with @FastpacedO that the defense has been buying time for the offense to gel….hopefully much like they came together over the course of last season. I can’t help but notice @tango’s cautionary remark about what happened the last time Chatard beat Cathedral and Roncalli the same year (and Guerin) - they got absolutely mauled by Memorial in Semistate. Just a few years prior, the last time Chatard beat Cathedral, Roncalli and Guerin they were also beat up badly by Ritter (who lost at State to Luers) led by Jake Purichia and a bevy of great receivers and backs. @Boiler Boog has mentioned some underclassmen for Chatard which, admittedly, do look pretty good but, clearly, this team is going to achieve or fail on the strength of its upperclassmen. I have to admit, though, I’m curious as heck regarding @Boiler Boog’s background in that he can be behind both an Indy Catholic (I’m giving Brebeuf the benefit of the doubt in that reference) and yet have some EIAC in him. Sounds like I path I walk/walked…

It's nice to see the Lawrenceburg and Batesville coaching staffs are spending their entire week on a message board again. The GID is officially BACK!

I feel that they've always had one or two teams that were upper half SAC potential. This year there are four. And with good coaching staffs in place, I see that trend continuing.

Chatard is not flashy this year. They are a typical Chatard team though play all the way until the end with constant hard effort. Nobody is going to wow you, but they play very fundamentally strong. Defense returns a lot of experience especially in the secondary. The defense is good enough that the Offense can work out the kinks to find themselves through the season. Offense does have some very good skill players that will be even better as they gel together. Chatard did a very good job of doing exactly what you said against Cathedral. They took advantage of Cathedral's QB still working the kinks out with the WR's and put pressure and disguised coverages. Offensively Chatard loosened up Cathedral's defense with their QB running and making plays opening the pass a little more.

North Vermillion +35 Covington +21 Fountain Central +10 South Vermillion starts with a running clock in the third quarter. Garzolini will have 6 passing TDs. We’ll be eating spaghetti in the stands and Coach B may even get crazy and wear his visor backwards in the second half just to spice things up. Gimme them Cats, baby!

Old school, I like that. Lymon was one of the best high school athletes I've seen in person. Easily top 5 out of the SAC. Right up there with the Rod Smith, Jaylon Smith, and John Goodman.

If I'm being honest, I never took the NE8 seriously until this year. I think this conference is as strong as it's ever been. I love that NE8 teams have the opportunity to clash with the SAC in Weeks 1 & 2 now. I think that only makes the NE8 stronger moving forward. East Noble impressed me when they went up against Snider. Tonight I get a look at two more solid programs.

Yes the team was very good....But Russ Yeast was special. I will never forget his 5 TD performance against Cathedral an Irish squad that was stacked as well with D1 players. Russ Yeast won the Gatorade Player of the Year that season for the state of Indiana. Had an excellent college career at both Louisville and Kansas State and as Grover mentioned, playing on Sunday's with the Rams. Incredible young man, earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees during his college playing days.

Moving Tae to QB will be a game changer against the likes of the SAC's B division teams but not Snider. Snider can go athlete for athlete with North Side and you taking your best player and putting him in front of the Panthers entire box instead of putting him in front of your their DB will not be good. Reminds me of Haydock in his Harding days moving Selwyn Lymon from WR to QB....made for some exciting games and eye popping numbers in 2005 but didn't equate to the kind of success North Side is looking for (State run). Tae is NOT a QB, he's an athlete playing QB and the Panthers WILL devise a sound game plan to neutralize him. Load the box and make him throw and you will see this "great idea" unravel rather quickly against Snider.

Aldridge: He was either injury plagued at Notre Dame or the classic example of the myth that a late bloomer will skyrocket in the recruiting rankings to sell clicks. I swear he went from 3 star to 5 star the day LSU offered and then all of the big boys started offering. I would be surprised if he had 100 total rushing yards at Notre Dame Banks: He was obviously an unbelievably QB at Ben Davis that was virtually unstoppable. He was like Vince Young at Texas. Just give him the ball enough and you're not losing. But, what really stood out to me, was the way he shut down Jeff Samardzija in the 5A State game. Jeff could have easily played in the NFL after Notre Dame but wisely choose the MLB route. And he was no slouch at Valpo. He was only a Junior in that State Title game, but he was tearing apart teams during Valpo's road to the RCA Dome. It all came to an end when Ben Davis put Banks across the LOS from him. I don't know enough about Banks to know why he failed to make the NFL. A lack of work ethic and dedication were always the common rumors. I remember him being a pretty solid WR at Tennessee. Shannon: See my opinion on a different post Finch: The true miss. Started as a True Freshman on a very solid Florida defense. The story was an injury set him back, Florida wanted him to switch to LB, he didn't like it and transferred to IU. I remember IU's coaching staff taking heat for not playing him and they basically said in a polite way that he wasn't mentally prepared. Rumors of an extremely low IQ always followed this kid around. Physically, he was definately on a trajectory for the NFL before things went south in Florida. Robertson: Similiar to Finch. Physical specimen. Mental midget.

Well, my opinion is that the favorite is the defending champion which is Valpo, especially with 19 returning starters. I can also see the other side of that and say the most talented team in 5A is Snider, which they were last year as well.

I snuck into Stinktown this morning to do a little recon on this goose poop situation in the "Armpit" and it looked to be all clear. So I slipped over to Connie's for some bacon and a cold BulldogBL, and low and behold there was STC drunker than Cooter Brown and getting lap dances at 7:00 in the morning. I don't know how that clown does it.
