SF has a lot to be thankful for this year. I hope everyone else can say the same thing as well. Still alive, breathing and able to take nourishment. Able to be cranky about the state of political affairs, and able to complain about them, but still able to smile and carry on. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on the GID.

I don't lose sleep over anything on this board. I come here to be a part of the community, and I think there are many great people on here (including Temptation) who have a great passion for it. He likes to challenge what people say, and I have no problem with him doing that. I get his main point. Ben Davis' Sectional was easy. The latter portion of their schedule was down. It still doesn't diminish getting off the mat after being at a very low point following all the unfair chatter that was out there about the school and program following the incident outside the stadium during the Carmel/BD game and playing themselves back into some part of the conversation by doing what was expected of them. Former boys basketball coach here at Ben Davis, Steve Witty always used to say, "One of the toughest things in sports is doing exactly what's expected."

That's fine...then Cathedral should never be referred as one of the state's best if they refuse to play in the toughest level of the post-season tournament. Blowing out everyone in 4A or 5A, then pumping a chest claiming to be the best or one of the best just doesn't cut it. Earn it. Cathedral has roster sizes every bit as large as 6A schools. While 6A schools have larger school enrollments, they don't control who is accepted into their schools, including their athletic abilities. Cathedral has absolute influence on the makeup of their football roster....let's not kid anyone or play the victim.

He moved to TW in 6th grade. I’m just yanking your chain. Notice I’m not mentioning any kids by number or name. Just acknowledge they were nice additions. Mac Dutra moved from Brownsburg to TW in 2014. He was a difference maker for sure. Just ask your HH friends. We actually lose more kids than we get. Just remember if you lose to Brebuef on a last second FG, that kicker was at TW until 8th grade. For those keeping score at home we also lost our best freshman to Brownsburg. And 2 other kids to Chatard. No judgement here. Just call it what it is.

Yet in the past 20 years, Cathedral has willingly scheduled *checks notes* these 6A powers: Center Grove, Carmel, Westfield, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Warren Central.... and these out of state powers: Elder, St. X, Moeller, LaSalle, Brother Rice, Louisville Trinity, St. Edwards, East St. Louis. Comparing Mishawaka's situation to Cathedral's is laughable. I have massive amounts of respect for Cathedral and believe they should only be in 6A if they move up to the Success Factor, but if there's one team that should volunteer to play up, it's Cathedral.

I'm not saying that it will be a blowout. I believe it will be close, I would just offer that BJ corners likely haven't dealt with anything quite like this. The offense moves the ball quick, and they score quick. When coach says, "you can't allow the big plays", the problem with that is that is what they do, all the time. "We got to keep their offense off the field". Again, they can score 50+ in 15 minutes. GS is not Cathedral....I'm not delusional, but they are really, really impressive and a crap ton of fun to watch (unless they are playing us).

Let's give this thread a rest and focus on the 2A State Final Game.

Predict who will win in each class and add any thoughts you have. I'll start. 1A: Adams Central vs. Indianapolis Lutheran - Saints win this one by a lot. I think they would even win 2A. 2A: Evansville Mater Dei vs. Andrean - This one could really go either way and both teams have been playing well. Give me the Wildcats by one score. 3A: Brebeuf Jesuit vs. Gibson Southern - Brady Allen and company are just too good on offense. This is the year we will remember the Titans. 4A: Northridge vs. Mt. Vernon (Fortville) - The Marauders have impressive team speed+strength which puts an end to the impressive run by Northridge. 5A: Cathedral vs. Zionsville - The Fighting Irish are the 2nd best team in Indiana regardless of class and will continue to show it with a big win here. 6A: Center Grove vs. Westfield - The Trojans continue their dominance and win another state title. The 'Rocks are tough but Trojans win by two scores.

A minor downturn could put them back in 5a. But I agree, they can be as good as they want to be. And kudos to the coaching staff for putting a team like that together. It's just nice to hear some of the Cathedral faithful admit to having some advantages over their public school counterparts. The "were a small school" talk makes me want to vomit.

For sure. I do not disagree with this at all. My point was more if Coach Park has been struggling to build numbers at the lower levels with all his ties and connections and history at Goshen... good luck to the next guy. Of course, this is only the view as an outsider. For all I know (but highly doubt) the coaching staff was not doing the necessary things to build the ranks. Either way, huge challenge for whoever undertakes this position.

Soooo 6A columbus north who won Conference Indiana and only ran into center grove 5A New Albany who won Hoosier Hills conference and made it to Semi state before losing to cathedral Kentucky 5A #2 South Warren who is in the Kentucky semi states currently Heritage Hills….twice Southridge…. Opponent records of 86-55….or 86-42 if you take out the losses they received to GS ya know what. I hope it does show because hats off to the coaches & administrators for making this schedule what it is. We played a damn good schedule and faced numerous great teams. It’s come a long way from facing mostly 2A schools a few years ago to what it is now…which is a schedule that is on par or better than with most of what 5A is

The system will work itself out...next two years in 6A if we fail to maintain that class level then we go back down to 5A. I agree and you are correct our roster size is as big or bigger than 6A schools. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the freshman team had close to 50 players this year. There will be some attrition of course as that morphs into JV like at any other school.

Only if it’s a pick 6 or scoop and score…or fire call on a field goal…lol and he’ll be in attendance wearing maroon and gold for the first time in his life. A bet is a bet!

Because, well, that's what they have to do to keep being successful multinational companies. There's hardly anything shadowy or suspicious about that. You can put gas in your car this morning because oil companies are making a profit, whether Warren approves or not. The price-gouging claim, however, is just wildly off base and smacks of political desperation. For months, Democrats claimed that dumping trillions of dollars into the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic—in the form of direct payments, expanded unemployment benefits, and other spending—would not trigger inflation. Then they claimed inflation was transitory. Months later, it now looks like significant inflation will continue well into next year, so a scapegoat must be found. But Warren's claim that oil companies are jacking up prices to turn a bigger profit doesn't stand up to even the slightest scrutiny. By their very nature, high prices nudge consumers to buy less than they otherwise would. This is somehow good for the companies that make money by selling things? That's a shortsighted view that only a politician could embrace. Any business operating under the idea that the key to success is screwing over its customers by arbitrarily doubling prices won't be around very long. In Warren's view, Walmart would be more successful if it suddenly doubled the price of everything it sells because that would mean more profit. It would be helpful to her argument if Warren could point to any evidence of this ever happening, but of course she can't. There's a less theoretical way to test her claim, too. If Exxon and Chevron had indeed "doubled their profits," as Warren claims, that should translate into a huge boost for their shareholders. You'd expect such a sudden surge in corporate profits to be reflected in their stock prices, right? But Exxon's stock was trading at about $62 per share on Monday morning. Six months ago, it was trading at…$59.61, according to Google Finance. I'm sure Warren would answer by claiming that billionaires are hiding the cash under their gold-encrusted mattresses in the Cayman Islands and that's why the IRS needs the authority to snoop on the bank accounts of Americans earning $600 a year on Etsy—and all that makes about as much sense as blaming inflation on price gouging. When it comes to assigning blame for any of life's unpleasantries, Warren is like a broken record. Billionaires and corporations, in Warren's view, are responsible for everything from high college costs to the lack of affordable housing to the current supply chain problems. Just as reliably, she ignores the role that government has played in creating or worsening those problems—by subsidizing student loans, imposing restrictive zoning laws, and implementing trade-limiting rules like tariffs and the Jones Act, for example. The same is true when it comes to gas prices, by the way. Government policies are contributing to inflation already, but Warren was one of several Democrats who backed a carbon tax during the 2020 presidential primaries. Regardless of what merits a carbon tax might have as a way to curb climate change, it is undeniable that it would mean higher prices at the pump. With inflation suddenly taking center stage in the political discourse, Warren is trotting out the same tired arguments blaming successful businesses for the consequences of failed government policy. There's no reason to believe her. Yep, here progressive liberal rhetoric/lies are old and tired. Nobody listens to her anymore.

Skipping ahead to #4 on the list (because I haven't finished #3 yet) of significant flaws in the coaches' vote system: 4. Coaches are not required to rate every crew they see during the period under review, introducing selection bias to the process. The guidelines sent to coaches by the IHSAA instruct them to rate the crews they have seen in the last 3 seasons, plus the portion of the current season. The purpose of this limitation is to insure that the coaches’ vote reflects, as closely as practicable, the current level of proficiency of each crew. However, this method of gathering information on crews is flawed by the absence of a requirement that each coach rate each crew he has seen. While the IHSAA can impose a monetary fine if a school does not turn in a coaches’ vote ballot, or even bar them from the tournament, a coach is free to turn in a ballot that rates fewer – sometimes substantially fewer – than all the crews he has seen over the period. This introduces a selection bias into the sampling process, invalidating the results of the coaches’ vote, if what we are seeking is a true, statistically valid, representation of the relative proficiency of the crews applying for the tournament. For years, when officials pointed out to the IHSAA this error in the methodology used, the standard response was “Don’t be concerned. If a school did not cast a vote for your crew, most likely the vote would have been a bad one. So, you benefited from the school not voting.” I have never seen any evidence to support that supposition. But more importantly, it fails to recognize the zero sum aspect of the playoff selection and advancement process. Because there are a finite number of games in the playoffs, and more crews applying for the playoffs than are needed to staff all the games, any advancement by one crew is at the expense of another. If there are crews that should be receiving poor votes, but they don’t out of some misguided notion by a coach that he is doing the crew a favor by not casting that vote, it comes at the expense of another crew that should, all things being equal, be rated higher. But they are not rated higher because other crews who would be rated lower if those misguided coaches had actually voted are taking the places ahead of them in the rankings. To the extent the coaches’ vote process is intended to accurately reflect coaches’ opinions of crews, the process is flawed by selection bias resulting from the failure of the process to require coaches to rate every crew they are eligible to rate. It would be great to hear from some coaches as to how they go about filling out their coaches' vote ballot. As always, if you would like to respond in confidence, just pm me and I'll use your response without attribution. Next: #3: Coaches are not given clear enough standards, and the standards they are given promote inconsistency and do not correlate to officiating excellence.

My stance has changed. I was one of those posters who felt that they should bump up. But I also felt my hometown teams of Bishop Luers and Snider should have bumped up as well. Luers for the same reason as Cathedral and Snider just for the sake rumbling with the big boys like old times. Clearly, there are no AD's or head coaches who are going to volunteer to do this, so why should anyone. Mishawaka did it, but as I said in an earlier post, they more than likely did it to avoid better competition. I'm looking forward to seeing Cathedral play in 6a (making 6a stronger) next year while 5a crowns a new champion. If the Irish don't succeed, then back down they go. The system will take care of it.

1A: Adams Central vs Lutheran: I think Adams Central wins this game in a close one. Lutheran has a weird way of not winning games in Semistate or State that they are favorites in, going back to the last 10 years. 2a: Andrean vs Mater Dei: I think Andrean wins this game in a close one as well. This may be one of my favorite matchups of the weekend. Two powerhouse private schools that possess a lot of talent on both teams. 3a: Brebeuf vs Gibson Southern: This is my favorite game of the weekend. Brebuef's D-Line will be the difference in the game and get key pressure on Allen. After seeing GS play Tri-West on Saturday, GS plays a fun brand of football with a lot of team speed on their side. I think this is another game that goes to the wire. Brebeuf's explosiveness in the pass game should be concerning to the GS defense. 4a: Northridge vs Mt. Vernon: Northridge's Cinderalla run ends with a loss to the Marauders. Mt. Vernon is just too explosive for Northridge to contain for 48 minutes. I think this will be the best atmosphere of the 6 games. 5A: Zionsville vs Cathedral: I think this game will end with a final score similar to the New Pal/Cathedral game in the Regionals. I just don't see how Zionsville gets it going offensively against one of the best defenses in the state. 6a: Westfield vs CG: The amount of high-level talent in this game is unbelievable. It'll be a well-executed game on both sides but CG wins this by 2-3 TDs. I just don't see how Westfield will be able to run the ball against the Trojans' stout DL.

Cathedral takes full advantage of the IHSAA's archaic playoff format. You think Cathedral is scheduling all those teams in a given year if forced to qualify for the 5A tournament, let alone 6A? Cathedral could go 0-9 playing all those teams and it doesn't jeopardize their postseason chances. You're crazy if you think Cathedral would volunteer to play up two classes just because a few anonymous posters on a message board think it's the noble thing to do. Mishawaka elected to play in 5A to duck teams like Cathedral and Dwenger before they were cycled up. Cathedral plays those schools in the REGULAR season because it doesn't affect their postseason chances in the least of ways. Huge difference.

Yeah, but with the metro area that they have to draw from, isn't their football program comparable to a school with a 5000+ enrollment? Great program for sure. Much respect for the Irish, but we have to acknowledge that their resources are more than abundant in terms of the quality of kid that comes to play for their program. It's pretty hard to intelligently compare them to 4a public school.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over someone who probably believes he is the commissioner of the IHSAA, but deep down inside he’s glad he’s not because then he can dream of how much better he would be as a Commissioner. You can’t say anything to him without him ripping you to shreds. Some of us have actual jobs and don’t have all day to be on a high school football forum.

I hope GS brings this back south. They will be the first public school since we won state in 2000 to bring this south of Indy. 20 years, since a public wins south of Indy....seriously guys....WIN. I won't speculate on a score, but I think Brefeuf MUST score at least 30 to even have a shot. GS will surely score a minimum of 35 points. I don't say it often but GO TITANS! Regardless, great season.

First time, long time here. Not sure how Brebeuf is under the radar considering they have been a perpetual top 10 team for about a decade now. They would surely have more sectionals and regionals to their name if not for being gerrymandered into the sectionals of hell (seriously, Tri West goes south? Someone find me a map of Lizton -> WestLaf vs Indy -> WestLaf). Anyways, excited to see if the Brebeuf D front can cause enough pressure to neutralize the GibSo passing attack, and, likewise, if Brebeuf can limit TOs with enough pass pro to attack the GibSo secondary. Could be the game of the weekend! I’ll hang up and listen.

This is about the player who had no role in your flame-a-thon. If "some dude" was "running his mouth", AND YOU WON THE GAME, why not take the high road? Lowering yourself to that level only reflects poorly on you. Again, just my humble opinion. Feel free to ignore and/or flame me. Been there, done that.

Let's not forget that these are KIDS playing a game that will stay with them forever. A tempered attitude with the ups and downs of teenagers should be 1st and foremost. I for sure had some situations in my teens that I wish I could have back. And 'effort' is so subjective, it's crazy. Support and congratulate these young men (and perhaps women) for their season long efforts, and the joy that brought to the entire community and student body. That's what HS FB is all about!
