I am very familiar with all of the top 5 teams and I will tell you without being able to be proven right or wrong (bc we will never know) New Pal can compete and beat anyone one of them. It is never a wrap till the last buzzer sounds on Thanksgiving weekend, but I like New Pal's chances.

The cool part is we get to see most of the top 6A teams play one another eventually. Center Grove still has Ben Davis and Cathedral. Brownsburg still has Westfield and HSE. Cathedral still has Center Grove. Warren still has Carmel and Ben Davis. Carmel still has Warren and Ben Davis. Ben Davis still has Carmel, Warren and Center Grove. Also anxious to see that next tier in the HCC. Is it HSE, Westfield, Fishers, Zionsville, Franklin Central or Noblesville with the best chance to make a statement? Best time of the year!!!

The only thing I didn't love in this loss was the Irish conditioning. If Coach Peebs doesn't run their arses into the ground all week the next two weeks, I'd be disappointed. Hands on hips as early as the 2nd quarter and our all-world D-line was pedestrian at best. O-line played so much better than week 1. D played so much worse. 2 blocked punts inside our own 30 and one fumble inside their 10 (albeit horrific call) were major mistakes that sank us. I love playing in 6A.

I would say they made the trip. QB - Passing 26 of 44 for 317 yds 4 TD 0 Int / Rushing 13 carries 113 yds WR 1 - 13 catches 121 yds 2 TD's WR 2 - 4 catches 70 yds 1 TD WR 3 - 1 catch 14 yds 1 TD TE 1 - 3 catches 42 yds (prior to injury) What didn't show up was the defense or special teams. To be one of top contenders you have to play well in all 3 phases of the game. The Irish didn't do that. There has been some crowning to start the season without a game being played, 6A in my opinion is very wide open CG will be my top favorite until someone knocks them off (even they will have some struggles). The Irish have some really good players, I think they will be a different team with more experience later in the season. Replacing 9 of 11 starters on defense there is going to be some growing pains and learning to get better. A game like last night will provide growth for those new starters. Offensively the Irish played very well but had a crucial fumble and a couple of bad penalties. The Irish will be fine as the season goes along ultimately none of it truly matters until the tournament rolls around. As for Brownsburg they played very well on offense as well. Their special teams were spectacular. I think the only kickoff their kicker didn't put in the endzone was after a penalty enforced on the kickoff backed them up and I think he still hit the 3 yard line. Young man has a very nice leg. Brownsburg QB played very well. They have some speed with their WR's and 2 solid RB's one of which was very shifty. Defensively for the Bulldogs they played very solid up front, their pass defense didn't have its best game, but they were defending some very good weapons. @PHJIrish I would concur that the officials didn't have their best night to be somewhat nice. I am sure they will review the film and not like some of it and hopefully improve (Game #2 for them also). I think the most glaring no call I could see was on the play the Cathedral TE got hurt the defender 100% interfered with the pass and even grabbed the TE's facemask and pulled him down before the ball was there with no call. It wasn't the best night for the officials

I'll bite: Since this is a 1A thread, where is the coaches poll flawed? Replace Covenant with Pioneer, and I think the coaches came remarkably close for an early season poll.

If Memorial doesn’t botch late 2nd Q punt return and the wide open WR doesn’t let an easy one go through the hands its a 7-7 or 14-7 game late. Maybe getting a few kids back week 3 will get Memorial heading in the right direction.

Not bad.

Great game by both teams. Defense could have used Cook big time. Really impressed by the freshmen making plays when it mattered. One sophomore stepped up as well to help the juniors carry the team. Not to be too critical, but the few seniors are going to have to play better. There has been some sloppiness in games and practice. Curious to see how CC is, but after that they shouldn't be pushed except possibly South Adams because it's a rivalry. This team has what it takes to go back to Indy.

The officiating may have been suspect, but that doesn't account for the fact that Brownsburg took Cathedral's posterior and handed it to them for most of the game. You get behind like that and every flag becomes magnified.

Not sure I entirely agree with you on the top 7, but I think you can make the argument for any one in that group to be higher. CG, BD, Brownsburg, New Pal are my most impressive teams thus far with Warren knocking on the door.

Nowadays St. Aug kind of goes back and forth on football. Last year I think they made it to the semis before being bounced. Back in the 60s/70s when I would watch them play, and run the sidelines as a ball/water boy, back in the Coach Otis Washington days, St. Aug was a powerhouse team often vying down to the last game of the season with Brother Martin or Archbishop Rummel to figure out the conference winner. Even back then, about half the folks in the stands were there to see the game and the other half was there to see the halftime show. One thing was sure, you always got your money's worth from the halftime show. The game was just gravy.

I'm reminded of the interview from 50 years ago: Reporter: Coach, in your wildest dreams did you ever think you'd win this game? Coach: Son, my wildest dreams have nothing to do with football. Similarly my greatest weekend ever has nothing to do with football. 😁

Brown County is that bad. They lost 77-7 to Owen Valley last week.

Back in my high school days, i spent one year in New Orleans at John Ehret High School in Marrero LA, We played St Aug, team was pretty decent, but the St Aug 100 was worth the admission just in itself. Normally its the football team that comes out to fireworks and smoke and such, nah, that was the halftime show.

Credit where credit is due. VL is legit. Hunt was amazing at times. The play that sticks out to me was when Hunt was running for his life toward your sideline, and threw the sidearm pass on point, but was not completed. The biggest knock I saw on him was he locks on to one receiver, and it led to an interception when he showed the safety where he was throwing and the kid made a play. Good luck to Lincoln the rest of the way. I’ll be paying attention.

I would put all my money on New Pal to run the table in 4A easily....their O-Line is the best in the state, no questions.

I watched the game. Triton has some talent for sure but Laville definitely was about a 3-4 score better team. Laville Qb shredded the defense through the air and the stat line was 220 or so rushing and 220 or so passing and that included the freshman JV Qb throwing TD pass on the JV D and end of game after fumble. Triton had 160 yards rushing at half and ended around 230 yards with I think 30 yards passing. Triton definitely will win some games! Good luck to them rest of season!

Watched some of the broadcast via phone. I guess Reitz had 13 penalties for 145 yards!? Crazy that they won that game. Panther said it best, it seems they are their own worst enemy right now but if they clean the undisciplined stuff up they could be a really good team. After the broadcast VL Coach Salters talked about Reitz having the best RB/WR combo and Summers being the best WR in the conference. They had him with 13 catches for 189 yards. Impressive performance. They’ve got the talent to beat anybody, but the thing about football is there is much more to the game than just having talent. Still hard to say but it would seem VL is legit and not a team that can be taken lightly. Their QB Hunt is an absolute gamer and they have a lot of fight in them as a team. We get to see them tested again at their place next week as they host MD. And for Reitz they host Jasper next, which could be very interesting. I wonder if Jasper will have all their guys back for that. SIAC definitely got way more interesting after tonight. Gotta love a little parity.

Ain’t that the truth. I can’t believe how bad they’ve been. Sadly, I’ve sat there and watched it in person both times this season. And I don’t even have to torture myself like that because I don’t have a kid or relative on the team. Yet here I am. Brutal.

Tough one to lose but Brownsburg clearly the better team, and their experience also showed as well. They won the line of scrimmage. Cathedral’s defense is a mess and special teams are even worse. Untimely penalties, poor execution, turnovers, etc you name it, tonight was a disaster. Only week 2 and still time to develop, but the new starters need to grow up in a hurry. That wasn’t acceptable football tonight.

A kid can go wherever he wants. But a school cannot openly recruit students to play sports. Some walk right up to (and, honestly, obliterate) that line by hiring travel sports coaches whose players seem to just happen to transfer to that school (or people with connections to certain travel sports programs who act as "feeders" for those programs, but you cannot reach out to people to try to get them to transfer for athletic-related reasons. I've heard of schools skirting this by having the parents (so therefore, no official school personnel) reach out to promising middle schoolers at area schools. About 20 years ago, I got a phone call from the athletic secretary of a school fuming because she got a phone call from the parents at a local private school who were trying to sell them on the benefits of an education and the athletic experience at that school (her response: "I'm a school athletic department staffer, I know the rules, you're recruiting, but trying to get around it by having the parents contact me. And no, we're not going anywhere else." They can move on their own - and I coached kids in middle school whose parents were clearly shopping them around to every private school in the area - but coaches and school personnel cannot try to entice someone to leave their current school to attend yours.

Morton has been "raided" by Merrillville the last few years so apparently Morton thought it was ok to do the same!!

This is a cool match-up. I'll have to see if I can catch this one. St. Aug is my dad's and uncle's alma mater and I would have attended too if we hadn't moved to Texas back when I was in junior high. It's an all-boys, Josephite Catholic school with strong traditions. DeSoto's one of the perennial powerhouse teams out of the Dallas area. It'll be a clash of city vs. suburbs, p/p vs. public, big vs. medium. Fun fact: Around 1 out of 6 of St. Aug's students are IN THE BAND ... The Marching 100. "Alma Mater, St. Augustine, Alma Mater, Josephite High;"

With that record they're apparently not recruiting very well either.
