  5. Correct as well, even Monday, AD and Coaches said they are not sweating it. However, if a serious injury would occur when I knowingly played a kid more than allotted number of quarters, I sure would be held liable. Listen we make do, we do not care about Wins or Losses at Freshman/JV level, our philosophy has always been getting gets reps and learn how to compete which we feel helps them mature through the program and hopefully help us on Friday nights. I just believe wholeheartedly that the quarter rule has hurt Freshman/JV teams. I feel sometimes when new rules are enacted, they are focused on the 4a and above and forget about the little guy. The quarter rule has zero affect on schools with rosters over 80 You are correct

  6. Eastbrook 4th? Maybe 3rd but that is even doubtful. Blackford, MG, and Alex are all improved but they all will struggle to shut down the running attack of Eastbrook. Yes Eastbrook lost a lot of key players, but this is becoming the norm with Eastbrook. Remember these kids practiced against all the kids lost and now that it is their chance they are taking advantage of it. Mississinewa is getting into the same thing. Loosing a couple of key players every year, yet still stay at the top of the CIC. Remember Mississinewa went undefeated in 2016 and lost all but 1 offensive lineman as well as the majority of the defense yet won the Sectional in 2017. Eastbrook lost a lot in 2015 and many said that they wouldn't do much in the post season as their sectional reign was over and they went to the State Finals in 2016. Point is Eastbrook and Mississinewa may loose a lot each year but they don't rebuild they both reload. Alex has had talent the last few years yet only managed to finish just above .500. Blackford was a surprise last year and everybody said that they were going to knock off Mississinewa and Eastbrook, yet they lost back to back weeks to both of these teams by not a little but a lot. MG is improving and they will surprise some teams this year but they are still a year or two out from being towards the top of the CIC.

  8. In my opinion, Dale Hummer does need to be on the Mount Rushmore of WRC coaches. Fountain Central is Fountain Central because of that man...

  11. Boonville at Vincennes ©, 6:30 pm North Posey at Mount Vernon, 7 pm Princeton at Terre Haute North, 6:30 pm Southridge at Jasper, 6:30 pm Washington at Bosse, 7 pm - With the Big 8 maybe looking worse than ever (ironically in its final year), Boonville v. VL could very well be the decider in just Week 2. - MV edges NP - THN eases past Princeton - SR gets eternal bragging rights over Jasper - Bosse romps Washington

  12. I was curious to know what schools out there use a nickname for a specific sport that differs from the nickname the school is known by overall. For example: Columbus North is the Bull Dogs but are the Bull Frogs in swimming. Columbus East is the Olympians but are the H2Olympians (or H2Os for short) in swimming. Columbus East also used to be known as the Olympi-Anns in girls sports in the 80s.

  13. On paper, all of the games should be ho hum. If Culver hangs on to the ball, they win going away. Culver big over SC Knox has no problem with Rochester this year. Knox big over Rochester LV has to focus on the team in front of them. As long as that happens then LV wins. LaVille big over Triton The HNAC could see it's first 2 mercy rule games this week. Pioneer makes a statement after week 1. Pioneer mercy rules Winamac NJ just too much for Caston. Judson mercy rules Caston

  15. Caston at North Judson - It seems like no one plays good at Judson, especially the Comets. Judson 42-21. Culver at South Central - Culver’s run game will do it’s thing and clean-up mistakes from last week and win but there will be points put up by both teams. Culver 35-28. Knox at Rochester - Knox will spank the stripes right off the Zebras this week. Knox 38-6. Pioneer at Winamac - Let’s see if Pioneer can put together a complete game in week 2. Even if they don’t, they still win big. Pioneer 48-6. Triton at Laville - Heated rivalry, neither team likes each other, this is going to be a slobber knocker!! Triton is still letting the ball fly, just as much as last year. But like last year, LaVille’s defense is way to much for the Trojans to handle. Triton will score, LaVille might be looking past them to their week 3 victory over Pioneer. Laville 42-8.

  21. I'm not sure Triton should have lost last week. They were picked to lose by several people, but ended up playing a great 3 1/2 quarters. I felt we subbed in too early and had poor clock management in the last 8 minutes that lead to the comeback. If our defense plays well like they have, I think it may be a close game. Laville is still probably a favorite though. For the rest it will be Judson, Culver, Knox, and Pioneer.

  26. It's socioeconomics. Frankfort has a high transient and high lower-income population. Sports really aren't on the priority list for a lot of parents, so the kids are not as likely to participate (and those who do aren't as likely to play on high-level travel teams from the moment they start walking like kids in suburban communities do).

  27. I think it is the agricultural runoff from off the surrounding farms and livestock barns getting into the Frankfort city water system. It seems the average lineman most years in the FHS varsity program is 5'10", 185lbs. This and the socioeconomic factors of the community mean many "omg! Athletes!" don't participate in sports or if they do they play soccer.

  29. 2A Bremen ahead of LaVille after a 20 point loss. Lions are not the team they were last year. According to game on internet, Bremen didn't have much in the way of offense in the 2 half. Bremen soon to be 0-2 after Riley game.

  32. 6a......................Carroll at #11 but no votes for Homestead. Carroll's 42-0 pasting of Luers was an eye opener, I get it, but watch out for Homestead this year. 5a......................Michigan City over Valpo? Michigan City is good, but I think Valpo fits somewhere in the Top 3.

  35. Actually, Terry, This is the 105 game in this rivalry which I believe goes back the farthest of any series in the state. It's my understanding that the Peru - Logansport series is the longest consecutive years running in the state but the Linton - Sullivan game first played in 1904 may be the oldest. The game wasn't played every year in the beginning but has been played every year since 1926.so this will be the 94th consecutive year for the rivalry. Sullivan leads the series 52 - 50 - 2. Linton dominated in the earliest years but beginning in 1934 Sullivan dominated the Miners pretty much for the next 50 years. In this century, Linton leads the series 14 - 5. BTW, I have seen all but a few of the games since 1937.

  36. Its exciting to hear all this good news about MG. Any chance they have a chance to take that 3rd spot in the CIC? or maybe second if the young eastbrook team doesn't respond well after getting beat? Who would everybody say the best player in the CIC is? Campbell? Bragg? I don't here of many other names around the conference. @XStar is right on by saying Marion is a top 5 team in 4A, been a while since i have seen a high school team with that much speed.

  39. I think we know that Mater Dei is not going to regress. They may get banged up being the smallest team in the SIAC, but they always seeem to be resilient. They've had a few thin years, but so long as they don't beat themselves, they should at least be able to match anyone with gameplanning on any given week. Reitz is the real wildcard (and HC for that matter). I haven't seen the HC game, but let's see how they do and if Reitz can build on any strengths. Not sure if Central is back to being the Central of old or if they were really hampered by the roster. Figure it out. Don't run between the tackles and get the ball to the outside. At least be sound in special teams and the Bears could surprise ... they could also sink.

  40. Alex @ Wabash - I was really shocked by the score last week with Wes Del, really expected them to win easily but maybe Wes del is improved. They have a good quarterback and a good offense so I look for the Tigers to get back on track and take care of Wabash this week. Eastbrook @ Delta - Sounds like Eastbrook played Marion pretty well for the most part considering how fast and athletic that team is. I believe Eastbrook will be more of a threat to Ole Miss for the conference then some people may think especially when you give them time to gel as the season progresses. I think it’ll be a tight game but give me the Panthers in a close one! Eastern @ MG - Really like what I saw from MG a week ago! It’s nice to see the program improving and trying to get the program back to what it used to be! MG has a good staff in place it seems and you can really tell the kids are bought in. The loss of Lugar will be tough but I believe they have enough to get it done this week. MG will surprise teams this year give me the Argylls by 7. New Haven @ Mississinewa - I’ll take Ole Miss in this one! Sounds like they are loaded again this year. Campbell boys will be hard to stop in conference play. Southern Wells @ Blackford - Time will tell on how good Blackford really is! I believe they are still a top 3 team in the conference but we will see. Blackford by a touchdown. Tipton @ Elwood - Tipton big in this one! Frankton @ Lapel - Lapel has a really good quarterback that ends up being to much for the eagles! Lapel easily. Southwood @ OH - Haven’t heard much about Southwood this year so I’ll stick with the cic team and go with OH this week!
